Good immunity, good health

"The cornerstone of good health is a properly functioning immune system."
           Andrew Weil, MD

The above statement is foundational to this topic.

Let's look at some of the bad news first:
"For the first time in history, U.S. children are sicker than the generation before them.  They're not just a little worse off, they are propitiously worse off physically, emotionally, educationally, and developmentally."
Judy Converse, MPH, RD, LD in Why Do Pediatricians Deny The Obvious?

"We're at the point where the antibiotic cupboard is almost bare.  We are victims of our own blindness.  We have been taking too many of them, and new, deadlier organisms - like the powerful drug-resistant tuberculosis strain - have been emerging as a result."
               Jeffrey Fisher, MD

"Chronic middle ear problems in children have not diminished...we have created a whole new kind of ear problem.  We have used antibiotics so excessively in the first year of life that we have depressed the development of the child's immune system."
               Walter Belenky, MD

OK, now some basics about natural immunity (from Strengthening Your Child's Immune System by Keith Wassung):

"An infant's immune system is immature at birth; fortunately, a newborn carries passive immunity from the mother for the first several months of life.  Breastfeeding provides the infant with the antibodies and immune-enhancing factors that develop the immunity...over the first year of life.

When babies put things into their mouths, this is (also) a natural way of gradually exposing their immune systems to tiny antigens, which the immune system must attack and destroy - a process which strengthens and protects the immune system."

"...Our immune system develops in combat.  If, at the first sign of infection, you always jump in with antibiotics, you do not give the immune system a chance to grow stronger."
                      Andrew Weil, MD

And now for the GOOD news!

The nervous system controls the entire growth and development of the immune system.  Strengthening the nervous system will logically result in a strengthened immune system.  Here are some basic principles to consider in this process:

1) Regular chiropractic adjustments, from birth onward

2) Breast milk instead of the dietary disaster called "formula"; supplementing with raw goat's milk or raw cow's milk if necessary

3) Feeding the infant organic vegetables and fruits, preferably home-cooked and pureed - and avoiding "baby cereal" and all processed food products

4) Delaying for at least the first two years, or avoiding altogether, vaccines.  These effectively squash the development of the immune system, and create an artificial immunity that is temporary and incomplete at best.

5) Encouraging creative play with non-toxic toys, and avoiding the artificiality and radiation of TV and hand-held electronic devices
6) And of course, regular nutritional evaluations...you know where!
We strongly encourage every young parent to follow these suggestions, and give their children the best possible foundation for a happy, healthy life.  Wouldn't that be good news?!
