Coconut Oil Hailed as ‘Miracle’ Dental Breakthrough, Deadly Bacteria Killer

Looking for an alternative to toothpastes loaded with sulfates and other toxic ingredients such as fluoride? Mainstream science has now fully recognized the ‘miracle’ powers of coconut oil to not only combat tooth decay and drastically improve overall mouth health, but also to specifically crush a yeast known as candida albicans that can lead to deadly infections. This ‘news’ likely comes as nothing more than further confirmation for many, as natural health practicioners have been recommending coconut oil for years.
The research comes from the Athlone Institute of Technology, where Ireland-based scientists examined the effects of natural and digested coconut oil on common strains of bacteria within the mouth. What they found was that not only did the coconut oil effectively inhibit a majority of the bacteria strains single-handedly, but it was also particularly harmful to candida albicans. This is important when considering the fact that an excessive amount of the yeast known as candida albicans can be brought upon by a poor diet consisting of processed foods and sugar.
Candida infection, also known as candida overgrowth or the ‘candy disease’, can be associated with symptoms like chronic tiredness, recurring yeast infections, and digestive issues. It can also lead to a mouth infection known as thrush — a condition typically ‘treated’ using anti-fungal medications preceeded by an x-ray of your esophagus. Now, researchers are highlighting how coconut oil intake can be an alternative solution with far less side effects and concerns.
In their report, the scientists state that coconut oil could be ‘an effective alternative to chemical additives’ in most dental hygiene products. This refers to the many sulfate chemicals linked to numerous conditions, added fluoride, and many others.
It is important to ensure that you purchase the right kind of high quality coconut oil when purchasing it online or from your local supermarket. An important consideration is that the scientists conducting the study may have actually used an inferior low quality coconut oil, meaning that the results may have actually been even more positive if they were to use a 100% organic, extra virgin source. As a general rule of thumb, just as with vitamins and other supplements, avoid purchasing a generic brand of non-organic coconut oil from your local chain supermarket.
Instead, look for a USDA certified organic or 100% organic label that is unrefined and cold-pressed. Personally, I would recommend Nutiva’s coconut oil on Vitacost for a high quality source that isn’t going to be highly expensive (I have no ties to either company). As a side note, coconut oil is also great to store as a preparedness food as it has a very long shelf life and is packed full of nutrients.

Healthful cookies recipe

Packing your own lunch every day is a wonderful way to save money and have a health-giving meal.  It can also be a challenging task, depending upon how much variety you crave!   When you run out of ideas, be sure to pick up a copy of our hand-out, "Ideas for Healthful School Lunches." These tips are good for any packed lunch, of course, not just for school.

When the Thropay children were all at home, their lunches often included home-baked goodies. That way they could eat something sweet that was made healthfully, instead of the junky items that most of their peers ate.  Baking these things was easy, keeping certain principles of substitution in mind.  (See the Substitution page in our Healthful Cooking and Eating cookbook.)

Here's a family recipe for "Healthy Hermits" - a delicious replacement for the popular spicy cookies called "Hermits."

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup raw honey
2 free-range eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
dash of sea salt
2 cups whole organic flour - barley,* or for gluten-free you may use brown rice or buckwheat
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup organic raisins
1/2 cup unsweetened or vegan carob chips (optional) or chopped nuts
1/2 cup organic unsweetened coconut
1 tsp. vanilla

In a mixer, cream butter and honey together well.  Add eggs, and cream well again.  Mix in spices. Dissolve baking soda in a tablespoon of hot water, then add to the mixture.  Mix in flour, then the remaining ingredients.  Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheets.  Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.  Cool a few minutes, then remove to a rack to completely cool. 

*We used whole barley flour to replace whole wheat flour.  The American wheat crop has been so hybridized that it now has 5x the gluten of any other wheat in the world.  This probably accounts for the increasing amount of gluten intolerance these days...for wheat in some form or other is universally present in the standard western diet.  Many people eat it half a dozen times per day, every day!

Healthy Heart Tips With Thropay Chiropractic!

The old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" certainly applies to heart disease - still the Number One killer in America.

One general rule is to eat plenty of foods containing the fat-soluble vitamins - A, D, and K.  These nutrients work together to prevent the calcification of plaque in arteries - which is considered the cause of heart disease.  Sadly, the commonly accepted dietary principles we've heard all our lives actually LIMIT our intake of these vital nutrients.  The low-fat diet is a big offender here.  No wonder heart disease is so prevalent!
 
Here are some of your best food sources for putting Vitamins A, D, and K to work for your heart health:
 
organ meats from grass-fed or free-range animals
animal fats from grass-fed red meats and whole raw milk (not pasteurized milk, because  the pasteurization process destroys the enzymes in the milk that enable us to assimilate its nutrients such as calcium and these vitamins)
pure, unrefined cod liver oil (best obtained from Standard Process or Green Pastures)
organic leafy green and other brightly colored vegetables
buttereggscoconut oilavocados (avoid all modern "vegetable" oils)
- spending lots of time in sunshine and fresh air  (for the L.A. area, especially on the beach, where the air is most fresh)
 
A healthy heart is fundamental to a healthy body.  And remember, "the heart eats first" !  Feed your heart well with only real, whole foods and concentrated whole-food supplements...and focus on tuning up your digestion, which is another key component in achieving good health.

Five Ways to Relieve Arthritis Pain Naturally

Arthritis makes life a little more difficult for people of all ages, and walks of life. But it is important to know that if you are living with arthritis, you are not doomed to a life of prescription drugs, surgery, and limited mobility; there are many ways that you can nurture your body back to an optimal state of function.
Fatty Acids are Essential
Fish oil supplements, which are high in omega-3s, may help reduce joint stiffness and pain. I prefer liquid over caps, because there tends to be a lot more filler in the capsules, and you end up getting a lot less EPA/DHA than you think.
Another fatty acid that can help is gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA. It’s found in the seeds of certain plants like evening primrose, borage, hemp, and black currants. You can also buy the oils of the seeds as a supplement.
Hot and Cold Therapy
Long, warm morning showers or baths help ease stiffness in your joint. During cold months, using electric blankets and moist heating pads when sleeping will keep your tissue warm and loose.
Cold treatments are best for relieving joint pain. Wrap a gel ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetables in a towel and apply it to painful joints for quick relief.
Lose Weight
Many people experience arthritis in their back and knees because of the pressure imbalances that excess weight causes. Simple fixes to diets can be essential in dropping unneeded pounds.
Double your water intake, get your body pH alkaline, eliminate inflammation-causing foods, and eat small, lean meals often. One of the biggest contributors to obesity is under-eating, and poorly-timed meals.
Exercise more often
Aside from the weight loss benefits of exercise, functional movement will recover a lot of joint flexibility, range of motion, and even break up scar tissue.
Turmeric
Here we go again! Turmeric, the yellow miracle spice common in Indian dishes, contains a chemical called curcumin that may be able to reduce arthritis pain. The secret is its anti-inflammatory properties.
All we hear about these days is about the powerhouse effects of Turmeric; how it is as effective as dozens of different pharmaceutical-grade drugs. It is a big strong-tasting, but it will revolutionize the way you treat yourself!
And of course, it goes without saying, that you should always have your primary doctor in the mix when you are deciding on a treatment path for your condition. Stay natural and happy!

SEVERE KNEE PAIN? Dr. Thropay Can Help!

Before I came to see Dr. Thropay, I had a very bad knee. Due to a fall, I had a torn meniscus nerve. I had surgery to repair it, but the surgery was unsuccessful. As a result, I had much pain daily. To be able to function at all, I was on a lot of painkillers, but even then, I was always exhausted, depressed, and not wanting to get out of bed.
Now, with Dr. Thropay’s regimen of nutrition and concentrated whole food supplements, I no longer need any painkillers! My knee doesn’t hurt at all. I can go up and down stairs easily now, which I could rarely do before. More than that - I am energetic, active, and getting healthier day by day.
I was scheduled to have another knee surgery, but now it is entirely unnecessary, so the surgery has been cancelled!

OK, no flu shot - so what CAN I do?


I'm sure you have noticed that there are SO MANY people suffering from colds or flu symptoms these days.  Maybe you are there yourself!  

The far too common treatment for flu symptoms and ear infections is a course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, this practice is what has caused the development of "super-bugs" that are resistant to antibiotics...so the pharmaceutical companies make stronger antibiotics, which in turn are resisted by stronger "bugs"... and the cycle is perpetuated.

Where will it stop?  We believe it is best to let antibiotics be a treatment only of last resort.

But there's lots of good news for treatment of first resort!

There are excellent, effective natural products available in our office. Come immediately for Susana to evaluate you (or your child). The right products for you will depend upon what she finds.  For example, the right protocol for a virus is different than that for a bacteria. 

The important thing is to attack the problem immediately and be consistent with the treatment until you test "clear." This will usually happen very quickly - the sooner you get started, the easier it is to resolve the problem.

It's a good idea to keep on hand a bottle of Congaplex and one of Immuplex.  Between the time you notice the first hint of a symptom and the time you can get in for evaluation (hopefully that will be within a very few hours), you can take 1-2 of these per hour.  Remember, though, that this is just a stop-gap measure to help a little until you get here and address the situation specifically.  

When it comes to ear infections, we have herbal drops for specific immune challenges - and again, you need to be tested to find out which one is right for your case.

Dietary recommendations?  Keep away from anything sweet when you have a cold, flu, ear infection, or ANY illness.  And of course, no junk food.  Your body needs to focus upon fighting the invaders, and can't afford to be distracted by digestive issues.

Nutrition Response Testing and OCD

Thirteen years ago, in June of 1996, I began to have an overwhelming fear of doing the simple things in life, and felt compelled to do the same things repeatedly.  In October of that year I was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive anxiety disorder, and was prescribed 100 mg. of Luvox daily.  At first I was able to function normally on this regimen, but to my dismay, the symptoms began to return in 1998.
In 1999, after trying some strange alternative treatments, I returned to the M.D.  This time he recommended Prozac, which I refused because I had heard that it was addicting.  He doubled the dosage of Luvox.  The symptoms remained, but were less strong.  However, by 2006, after 10 years of Luvox, the symptoms were so severe that I had to quit work.  I was afraid to go out of the house or do anything! The doctor then suggested Xanax, but I declined to take it because I feared the side effects that were listed.  At my request the doctor started to cut back on the Luvox. (I have since then discontinued it entirely.)
My sister urged me to see you for Nutrition Response Testing.  Since the doctor had said that there was no cure for OCD, I was very skeptical.  I figured that if the medical profession had no answer, what good would taking supplements do? There was fear, too, of trying your work and not getting any help. Also, I was convinced that my problem was mental and not physical. Finally her persuasions prevailed, and in May of 2007 I came to you for the first time....
...Right away upon starting treatment, I began to feel more relaxed, less tense and afraid.  Within 4 months, about 60% of my symptoms had disappeared. By July, 2008, I was more than ready to return to work, and got a job where I am still employed a year later.  None of the original symptoms have ever returned, and I feel great!....

Have You Been To Multiple Doctors, With The Same Response..."There Is NO Cure"? Visit Dr. Thropay & Experience REAL Answers!

About five years ago a rash developed on my right hand, and began to grow. I went to see my medical doctor, who gave me a medication for fungus. This did not help, so a year later when cracks had developed in my hand, I went to a second doctor. He said it was psoriasis, and gave me a prescription ointment for my hand. That also did not help. About another year later, since my hand was much worse, I tried a third doctor. He diagnosed it as psoriasis, and told me there was no cure. At that point I gave up, thinking for sure there must be no cure. By this time my hand was constantly painful, cracking, peeling, and blistering. The skin was dry and rough. Even the hair follicles were irritated. Because my job involves working mostly with my hands, this was a major problem to deal with.

A few months ago I went to Dr. Thropay for another problem, and after several treatments I decided to mention my hand to him.  He checked me with his nutritional testing and found that there were parasites in my hand.  After we got those cleared out, he found next that I also was reacting to chlorine.  I stopped swimming and drinking chlorinated water, and took the recommended supplements.

Just 2 months after the first testing, my hand has healed to where it looks almost entirely like my other hand.  There is no more peeling or blistering.  I have no pain when I am using it at work, and that is a big plus.  I look forward to being able to swim again in the future....

Do you have a choice when it's Osteoporos​is?

How effective are the favorite medications for osteoporosis, like Fosamax, Boniva, and Actonel?  Howsafe are they? These are million dollar questions!
 
Those drugs are very powerful and known to have devastating "side" effects. For that reason, patients currently are usually told to take them for no longer than 5 years.  
 
Here are a few of the effects they bring:
 
- risk of Barrett's esophagus (the lining of the esophagus is eroded, causing pain, difficulty in swallowing, increased risk of tumors)
- spontaneous hip fractures
- indigestion
- long-term weakening of the skeleton
