No Flu for You! Natural Ways to Stay Free from Flu this Winter

NO FLU FOR YOU! NATURAL WAYS TO STAY FREE FROM FLU THIS WINTER

natural-flu-remedies
Removing the toxic burden from the body is the first natural step toward optimizing your immune system. Toxins are everywhere, in our food, water, air, you name it. Nearly everything has got some sort of chemical or toxin in it. Our bodies are filled and clogged with toxic debris and are in most cases unable to properly flush these toxins, so instead our bodies end up storing them.
Toxicity in the body has been shown to dramatically reduce immune function, and has even been linked with autoimmune disorders. According to renowned Functional Medicine physician Dr. Mark Hyman MD, “The fact is, toxins may be the most important cause of autoimmune diseases”.
With that in mind, here are some natural ways to support your immune response and help you stay free from flu this winter.
Natural ways to support your immune system
1. Green juice and zeolite
The fastest, safest and most effective way I have seen to remove the most damaging and broadest range of toxins is a combination of pure liquid Zeolite and green vegetable juicing. This combination removes heavy metals like Mercury, Lead, Cadmium, Aluminium and radioactive particles like Strontium-90 and Caesium-137, and a broad spectrum of other unwanted toxic material, such as pesticides, herbicides, hormone mimetic’s, dioxins, nitrosamines, and other volatile organics. Unlike other forms of chelation, liquid zeolite absorbs and neutralises heavy metals and toxins in the body, so they do not cause any damage on the way out of the body.
In a pilot study by holistic physician Dr. Gabriel Cousens, a sample of 55 people were tested for toxins. Initially, it was found that there was an average of over 800 different types of toxins in each subject, including mercury, lead, aluminium and depleted uranium. A detox protocol – a green juice fast with a maximum dose of NCD2 Pure Liquid Zeolite – was administered for one week. After that time, toxicity tests showed an average of 88% removal of all toxic material in participants’ bodies. Participants who continued the same protocol for an additional week achieved a remarkable 100% removal of all toxic material in the body.
If you don’t want to go to the extreme of a juice fast, add a ‘green drink’ with zeolite to your daily routine.
2. Get off your butt!
We all know exercise is essential to a good immune system, but why? Well apart from the obvious one like sweating out lots of toxins, exercise is what powers your lymphatic system. Part of your circulatory system, your lymphatic system plays a major part in your immunity. The lymphatic system produces immune cells and in doing so, “defends the body against disease by launching immune responses”.
There is more lymph in your body than blood, and the best way to get it moving is to get off your butt and move! The more you move the more you stimulate your lymphatic system, reducing toxic load and supporting your natural immunity. Simple.
3. The turmeric “bomb”
If you do happen to feel like you’re coming down with something ‘buggy’, here is a special recipe that is sure to turn the tide and give your body a natural boost.
Ginger and turmeric honey “bomb” with zeolite
Makes 1/2 cup of mixture
Ingredients
1/2 cup / 120 ml honey (preferable organic unheated or medihoney)
2-4 tbsp freshly grated ginger (or ground ginger), depending on how strong you prefer it
2 tsp ground turmeric (or freshly grated turmeric if you can find it)
1 Freshly grated zest of one organic un-waxed lemon
2 pinches ground black pepper
15 drops of NCD2 Liquid Zeolite
Instructions
Stir together all ingredients in a bowl. Taste and add more ginger or turmeric if needed. Aim for a really strong flavour, you’ll only add a few teaspoons to a cup of water.
Store the Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb in a glass container.
Boil a cup of water, and let it cool slightly (to keep the benefits of the honey intact) before stirring in a few teaspoons of the honey bomb mixture.
Drink and enjoy!
Alternatively, you can also add this combination to your favourite brewed tea.
4. Modulate with mushrooms
When it comes to immune system modulation (balancing), mushrooms are king!
Immune modulation is essentially ‘training’ your immune system to respond appropriately to pathogens, toxins, cancerous cells and other dangers. We want the immune system to take care of the problem at hand without over-reacting and killing healthy cells. Medicinal mushrooms are unique for this purpose, as they can both boost immunity, and help calm an over-active autoimmune response. With an immune system working in perfect harmony, colds and flu’s don’t stand a chance.
But that’s not all mushrooms can do. The modulating capacity of many varieties can also be helpful for addressing health challenges like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other immune-related conditions. They also assist with reducing blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, improving circulation and oxygenation, improving cognitive health, improving digestive wellness, metabolic efficiency and supporting the cardiovascular system.
Of course, different mushrooms have different properties. To get the full spectrum of all the different kinds of healing agents mushrooms offer, use a blend of several mushroom species. Each mushroom species also has a unique arsenal of anti-infective and immunomodulation agents, and it is easier for pathogens in your body to adapt (and become resistant) to one type of mushroom than to several. So combining a variety of medicinal mushrooms is the best way to support your immune system in the long term.
[To learn more, check out my recent article Medicinal Mushrooms – Ancient Knowledge, Modern Healing]
As far as supplements go, Megadefense is the most potent and broad spectrum mushroom supplement I have come across. It blends 6 medicinal mushrooms, including Turkey Tail and Himematsutake (2 of the most powerful), each offering a slightly different polysaccharide structure. It is 100% USDA certified organic, kosher, and non-GMO, and all the mushrooms used are grown in competition with each other, which stimulates production of the beneficial immune-modulating agents. It is blended to activate and modulate all 260 different types of human immune cells, and it includes the benefits of added micronised zeolite.
By clearing out the body’s toxic burden and modulating the immune system, you can help your body work at its peak – not just in flu season but all year round.

Cayenne Pepper: The Miracle Herb That Everyone Should Be Taking

CAYENNE PEPPER: THE MIRACLE HERB THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE TAKING

cayenne-pepper-health-benefits
“If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper. It is more powerful than any other.” Dr. Schulze
“In 35 years of practice, and working with the people and teaching, I have never on house calls lost one heart attack patient and the reason is, whenever I go in–if they are still breathing–I pour down them a cup of cayenne tea (a teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of hot water, and within minutes they are up and around).” Dr. Christopher
Dr. Patrick Quillin “Cayenne pepper – prized for thousands of years for its healing power. Folklore from around the world recounts amazing results using cayenne pepper in simple healing and in baffling health problems. But cayenne pepper is not just a healer from ancient history.
Recent clinical studies have been conducted on many of the old-time health applications for this miracle herb. Again and again, the therapeutic value of cayenne pepper has been medically validated.
In a recent letter to the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine, three Italian doctors describe how they were able to reduce patients’ reported dyspepsia symptoms by more than half – by prescribing red pepper powder. In a study of 30 patients with functional dyspepsia, half of the participants received a placebo, while the other half took 2.5 grams of red pepper powder each day (divided into capsules taken before each of three meals). Both groups took their respective treatments for five weeks, and rated their symptoms each day on a scale of zero to three (higher scores indicated more severe symptoms). By the third week, the red pepper group showed a significant advantage over the control group. And by week five, the pepper group’s symptoms had declined 60 percent from their baseline scores – while the control group’s scores had only decreased about half as much. The symptom scores included ratings for pain, a feeling of fullness, nausea, and an overall score. The red pepper powder produced significant gains in all four areas.

Quiz: Guess the food

QuizTitle
There is a one-word answer to this quiz. See if you can get it:

1) The seed is grown in overused, nutrient-depleted soil that has been treated with chemical fertilizers

2) The growing plant is sprayed frequently with chemical pesticides and fungicides

3) The harvested product is stored in bins and sprayed with a mercury-based preservative to keep out the rats and bugs

4) When it is ready to be used, the processing begins:

a. The fiber is removed to make the food product softer and prettier

b. Most of the nutrients are removed to prevent mold

c. The enzymes (needed for human digestion) are removed to further extend the shelf life of the food product

d. To produce a whiter product and to provide even more longevity on the shelf, the item is bleached with chlorine compounds

e. Chemical additives are introduced to prevent staleness down the road, and enhance the texture

f. A few artificial, laboratory-concocted, fractionated vitamins are added to supposedly atone for the total destruction of the nutrition in the food product from the above processing

5) The resulting product is creatively used in a hundred ways and is THE MAIN COMPONENT of the daily American diet, including many Mexican and Italian foods eaten here.

Most Americans eat 5-10 servings of this product every day. Nearly all of those servings also contain various forms of sugar, its favorite companion.

These food products are directly related to digestive and bowel disorders of many types, obesity, diabetes, neuro-toxic disorders such as autism, anxiety, and ADHD, and more.

We believe these products also indirectly contribute to many more serious disease conditions. Why? Not because the original food was "bad," but because of the destructive growing and processing practices that convert the food from healthy to harmful...and because of the universal addiction to these products.
I'm sure most of you have already arrived at the answer.

The ubiquitous end product is white flour - found in bread of all kinds, plus in rolls, buns, biscuits, muffins, crackers, croissants, croutons, stuffing, churros, flour tortillas, pasta, pizza crust, pretzels, waffles, crepes, doughnuts, cookies, cakes, pies, pastries, ice cream cones, fried chicken and fish, gravy mixes...and beyond.

The answer to the quiz is the original food - which was intended to nourish us instead of make us sick: wheat

10 Reasons You Should Be Eating More Olives

Olives are one of the oldest and healthiest foods known to man. They were grown widely, traded and eaten in the ancient Mediterranean, and stone mortars and presses used for olive oil extraction date as far back as 5000 BC! The wood from the trees were used for fuel and construction, and the olive fruit and oil remain one of the oldest medicines known to man (it is, indeed, a fruit).
Here are 10 reasons why you should eating more of them:

#1 – Oleic Acid
Oleic acid comprises of 75% of the fat in olives. It is a monounsaturated fat that helps to lower blood cholesterol levels, promote the development of bones and marrow, maintain balance in the metabolism and prevent oxidization. This is a great fat to introduce into your diet and is liquid at room temperature.
#2 – Copper
1 cup of black olives provides 38% of your daily value of copper. Copper is central to building strong tissue, maintaining blood volume, and producing energy in your cells. It is required to manufacture collagen, a major structural protein in the body, and functions as a co-factor in the formation of the anti-oxidizing enzyme “superoxide dismutase.”
#3 – Iron
That same cup of black olives will provide you with 1/4 of your daily iron requirement (Olives are the most iron-rich fruit in the world). Iron is contained in hemoglobin, which exists within the red blood cells in your body. It is extremely important in the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. It is also magnetic. If you’ve ever wondered how the magnetic field produced by your body directly relates to your biological health, think about that iron moving around.
#4 – Weight Loss
When replacing saturated fats, olive oil has shown to reduce insulin insensitivity and help break down fat inside of fat cells. The aroma extracts in olive oil have also been known to leave people feeling more full.
#5 – Cancer Prevention
In addition to the abundance of anti-oxidants and anti-inflamitory acids, olives contain squalene and terpenoid, two compounds that work to neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals on the body’s cells.
#6 – Heart Health
Olive oil contains biophenols, which reduce blood pressure and supress the synthesis of LDLs (Low-density lipoproteins). LDLs are known as “bad cholesterol” and the biophenols help prevent them from hardening the arterial walls (which could, otherwise, lead to atherosclerosis).
#7 – Pain Reduction
A compound within olives, called oleocanthal, has notable anti-inflamitory properties resembling those of ibuprofen. Though structurally dissimilar to ibuprofen, they both inhibit an enzyme called cyclooxygenase and help prevent inflamation.
#8 – Prevention Of Stomach Ulcers
Helicobacter pylori is a stomach ulcer inducing bacteria found in gastric acid and has developed some resistance to anti-biotics throughout the world. In-vitro studies have shown that some phenols from olive oil can destroy 8 strains of H. pylori and may be a legitimate chemopreventive agent for peptic ulcers or gastric cancer.
#9 – Vitamin E, Vitamin A, And Fiber
The nutrient rich olive is full of hugely beneficial vitamins that help improve vision, digestion, skin and hair health and the list goes on.
#10 – They Taste Great!
Olives taste awesome. Yes, this is an opinion. Cured olives go great on anything from pizza, to martinis, to salads and sandwiches, to breads. Their mild, yet pungent deliciousness permeates cultures and restaraunts around the world. Hopefully, you have a jar in your refrigerator right now. I ate 3 of them earlier while I was writing this article and I’m about to eat more.
So, go out and get a bottle of olive oil and another jar of olives. Treat yourself to one of the greatest foods in the world often, and share the knowlege of their health benefits, as well as their flavors, with your family and friends!

How to cut food costs

Food-Costs-Image
Budget getting out of control? Take a look at these ideas for saving money on groceries, while at the same time helping your health.

1. Learn to cook. It's easy! Healthful meals are very basic and simple to prepare, with a few general principles to guide you. And there's lots of online help these days, with step-by-step recipes, tips, and more.

2. Take fewer trips to the grocery store. We all do "impulse buying" at the market, spending an average of $10 extra per trip. So if you shop once per week, instead of three times, that will save about $20 per week right there - or $80+ per month.

3. Break up the restaurant routine. Go out for dinner once a week, instead of three times. If your meals average $20 per time, you will save $160 per month.

4. Pack your own lunch for work. By spending about $3 per lunch instead of the $6 average that "buying out" costs, you will save at least $60 per month.

5. Buy healthful foods cheaper.

- We always recommend the local farmers' market for organic or "no-chemicals" produce. Ask questions about the farming practices, and choose your vendors carefully.

- Vitamin City in north Long Beach usually has lower prices than other health food stores or markets.

- When you can, buy in bulk any items that you will totally use up.

6. Make leftovers count. Most Americans waste about 14% of their food purchases of meat, fruit, vegetables, and grain products. That alone adds up to an average of at least $600 per year per family! Tips to avoid this:
- Make sure to purchase only what you will use
- Refrigerate your leftovers as soon as they are lukewarm, and use them within couple of days as a casserole or hash (They will normally keep well for up to a week, but it's easy to forget about them!) Re-heat gently.
- Don't get hung up on "use by" dates. Those are placed by the food producers, and they do a great job of guaranteeing repeat business! Most canned or packaged foods are fine after those dates.

7. Re-visit the snack issue. Making your own snacks, drinking water more often, and cutting down on the number of times you "munch" every day will all give you mega-savings!

Saving money AND eating more healthfully - it's a win-win situation!

We'd love to know your favorite money-saving tips. Write us back to share your suggestions, or call us at (562) 861-3896.

This Is Why You Should Be Eating A Lot More Figs:

THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD BE EATING A LOT MORE FIGS:

figs-powerhouse-nutrition
Figs are a highly prized and nourishing fruit that have been used to treat nearly every known disease since ancient times. They can provide phenomenal amounts of energy and vitality to the body as well as aid in the repair and restoration of the digestive, cardiovascular, lymphatic, reproductive, muscular, immune, and skeletal system. Figs are one of the most alkaline fruits available and are rich in minerals such as calcium, iron, copper, potassium, selenium, and zinc. In fact, figs are one the highest sources of readily assimilable calcium in the plant world which makes them a great choice to help prevent osteoporosis and their potassium content can help to prevent hypertension as well.
Figs have the ability to bind to acids in the body that accumulate as fat globules and flush them from the body making them a good addition to any weight loss program. They also work as an excellent laxative and their high mucin content help to eliminate toxic wastes and mucus from the colon. Similarly, they also also very beneficial for people who suffer from asthma as they can help to drain phlegm from the body. Figs have the ability to kill off bad bacteria while promoting the buildup of good bacteria such as acidophilus in the bowel. Figs contain chlorogenic acid which can help lower blood sugar levels and control blood glucose levels in Type 2 Diabetes. There are hundreds varieties of figs, but some of the more common ones found in supermarkets include Black Mission, Kadota, Brown Turkey, and Calimyrna. Fresh figs are a decadent treat when in season, but when fresh figs are not available, try soaking some dried figs in water for a few hours and blend into a sweet and creamy fig pudding or add to a smoothie for a flavor and nutritional boost. Snack on fresh or dried figs for a powerhouse of nutrition and energy that can help your body function optimally all day long.

How to handle...aluminum

informational-site
One of the three most common elements on earth, aluminum is chosen and extensively used by manufacturers for its ready availability plus its stability and ease to work with. The resulting numerous products are ever so convenient and seem almost to be necessities in this culture of ours!

The minus side is that aluminum has a bad habit of accumulating within the body - especially in certain areas. Although one of two exposures would not be harmful, unfortunately most of us absorb some every day - and the more frequently we ingest it, the more potential damage we incur.

- Aluminum deposits are often made in the bones - a causative factor in osteoporosis

- The brain is another favorite place - contributing to Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's and other auto-immune conditions

- Aluminum can accumulate in breast tissue - associated with cancer there

We absorb aluminum from a multitude of sources. Here is a partial list, and I'll follow each item with proactive alternative suggestions for you in italics.

- anti-perspirants and sunscreens [Use a non-aluminum deodorant such as Lavilin. Read the labels on sunscreens and choose accordingly OR better yet, get some genuine benefit from the sun and just take Cataplex F perles regularly all summer to prevent burning]
- beverage cans [Drink only spring water or homemade juices]

- cooking utensils, whether at home or in restaurants [Use high-quality stainless steel pots and pans, and give your business to restaurants who do the same]
- foil in food preparation and storage [Use glass baking dishes, covered with another pan instead of foil in the oven. Bake potatoes in their skins smeared with olive oil. Avoid foil-baked potatoes or foil-wrapped take-out food. Ask for paper wrapping or a styro container with a paper lining between the food and the container. Never cook or store food in foil]

- vaccines - an aluminum compound is added to "make it work" [Avoid all flu vaccines, and take a hard look at the vaccination idea for infants. Focus instead on actively supporting your and your family's immune systems]

The old saying goes, "Birds of a feather flock together," and this is true of aluminum. It loves to hang out with its best buddy mercury, along with other heavy metals. These are often found in the same areas as other immune challenges, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. This is bad news for our bodies!

Our famous "two-pronged approach" in this clinic addresses the aluminum problem in two ways:
1) Carefully and strategically help your body drain out the offender(s)
2) Teach you how to stop putting it in, to give your body opportunity for healing and real wellness

We believe both factors are necessary to provide a complete preventive approach to handling aluminum.

Epidemics, part 2

shutterstock_43641127_2
In view of the current concerns over various powerful viruses out there, we feel it is worth underscoring last week's newsletter topic today.

As you know, there are no "drugs" that can kill viruses. Your body's immune system is the only weapon you have against them. Just as we would stormproof our homes against water and wind damage, so we must pay close attention to "virus-proofing" our immune systems, making sure they are in top working order.

If a hurricane-style storm were coming our way, what would you do?

Probably you would make sure all windows and doors were tightly closed. Loose screens would be tightened or removed. You would gather all movable objects from the yard and garden, and secure them indoors.

Your immune system needs to be protected like that from "leaks" that make you vulnerable to damage. These come from chronically accepting immune-suppressing items into your body, such as nutrient-depleted food products, chemicals and heavy metals from various sources (as discussed last week). Such habits create a welcoming environment for viruses in your body. Your weakened immune system will be more readily overcome by the invaders. Time to act!

But when there is an eminent weather threat, you will do even more to protect your home and family. You'll make sure there is enough food, water, and other supplies stocked to last for several days if necessary.

That's like providing your immune system with the tools that enable it to function freely and give you the best possible protection against a viral threat. You know what those tools are:

- a diet of whole, natural, LIVING foods that bring multiple nutrients "to the table" - the building blocks your immune system requires to keep you strong

- immune-enhancing concentrated whole-food supplements

- immune-supporting natural herbs, both in food and in supplement form

These supplements and herbs are Cataplex A-C-P, Cataplex D, Congaplex, Immuplex, Andrographis, Astragalus, Echinacea, peppermint, and others. The best way to know which ones YOUR body needs is to come to Susana and be checked.

Enzymes also play a big part in good immune health. Eating the SAD (Standard American Diet) means most of the ingested food has had the enzymes removed from it, which puts an enormous digestive load chronically on the body, and, guess what? knocks down the ability of the immune system to function.

So it's very likely that you would be greatly benefited by including digestive enzymes in your daily intake. Since every body is different, individual requirements and the appropriate products vary considerably. Again, Susana can help you with this.

The drawback with our little storm analogy today is the time factor - a storm is a temporary thing. Strengthening and supporting your immune system is very much a long term project. We cannot overemphasize how vital it is that you start NOW and KEEP AT IT!
