Don't "fall" for an epidemic this autumn

download
The bad news: Enteroviruses, new flu strains, and more...how can you escape becoming one of the statistics?

The good news: You were born with an immune system that was pre-programmed to protect you from pathogens that would knock you down...AND this amazing system has already saved your life numerous times!

The bad news: In our current culture, many factors that enter our bodies actually suppress the immune system, and keep it from functioning optimally. That puts us at higher risk for any epidemic.

The good news: You can consciously change this situation and strengthen your immunity.

Immuno-suppressants enter our bodies primarily by three portals: the lungs, the skin, and the mouth.

Aside from the smoggy air that we can't control, the lungs and skin portals can be helped by the "pitch and switch" method - to a natural products lifestyle. Discard all household cleaning AND body-care products that contain toxic chemicals, and replace them with "green" and non-toxic products. (For details on this, please contact our office.)

By far, the greatest "portal of entry" is our mouths. The "pitch and switch" method is also VERY important here! Our mouths have become dumping grounds for things that deprive or deplete our bodies of crucial nutrients that are necessary for immune function. These include the following and more:

- processed, convenience foods, which are already nutritionally defunct

- pharmaceuticals - the more you take, the more compromise to your immune system

- heavy metals that come from
a) cooking with aluminum pans and foil
b) dental amalgams made with mercury
c) some organic foods and herbs that are grown in China

The primary solution is to switch to a diet as free from chemicals and additives as is possible to obtain - locally grown organic vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, and raw dairy.

Another serious immune-suppressant is chronic sleep deprivation. That definitely needs to be corrected, too. Suggestion: Insomnia is often a by-product of a nutritional or chiropractic problem. (We can help!)

And finally, emotional stress has a "depressing" effect upon the immune system. As many other positive factors as possible need to be in place, to assist the body to deal with the stress without knocking down the immune system to a dangerous level.

The good news is that ALL of the above negatives can be changed, turned around, helped. It takes YOUR commitment to make the difference. But the pay-off makes it all well worthwhile!

Nutrients come in families

kids_games_nutrition_fun
Taking a "vitamin supplement" is like scheduling a board meeting for just one member.  Or setting a fancy table for a party of twelve, but only one person comes to the party.

The manufacturers of most vitamin and mineral supplements focus on a single element that is believed to be the most effective in the body.  They isolate this item and mass-produce it - usually synthetically in a laboratory.  But this practice of fractionating nutrients brings problems.

Take "Vitamin A," for example.  Synonymous with beta-carotene, right?  Not quite.  Beta-carotene is one member of a FAMILY of carotenoids, and is NEVER found alone in nature. Its family includes alpha-carotene, cantozantheen, gamma-carotene, omega-carotene, and others. By isolating beta-carotene from its family of carotenoids,  the synergistic benefit of all the nutrients working together is lost.

In addition, virtually all beta-carotene supplements on the market are not made from a food at all, but from acetylene gas.  Do you think your body can't tell the difference?

Another example is chromium, a necessary mineral containing the GTF ("glucose tolerance factor") which is a family of factors working together that help protect against diabetes.  But almost all chromium supplements on the market are from laboratory-made chromium picolinate - which does NOT contain the Glucose Tolerance Factor!  So the primary health benefit of chromium is not there.  Why spend the money?

Just like Vitamin A and chromium, many natural nutrients are actually complexes that must be totally present in order for us to truly benefit.  These include amino acids, Vitamin B, trace minerals, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.They are all found in certain whole foods and in concentrated whole food supplements, but not in commercial, laboratory concoctions.

As a matter of fact, the B complex is a family of eleven - and counting!  Science is only able to discover what has been there all along.  Attempts to replicate or outdo nature fall miserably short. The LIFE factor is missing.

The interesting thing about whole foods and whole food supplements is how much LESS is needed for MORE benefit.  The vitamin A content in A-F Betafood (made from beets and carrots at Standard Process) is 3000 I.U. for 2 tablets.  The label on a synthetic Vitamin A might say 6000 I.U. per serving.  But isolated beta-carotene, even in larger quantities, cannot come close to achieving the health benefit that comes from the whole carotenoid family, even though the amounts seem to be much smaller.

A synthetic vitamin is like an image in a mirror.  It looks like the real thing, but doesn't deliver.  That's why in this office we use concentrated whole food supplements, where all the co-factors are present.

And, as you know, we constantly recommend a diet of whole, natural, organic foods as the primary source of nutrition.

Point to ponder:
Good health doesn't just happen.  It has to be worked at!

Our August Deals Are Rolling Over To September! Set Your Appointments TODAY!!

For the "last hurrah" before the fall routine sets in, here's a make-ahead recipe for a cool, frosty dessert.  Great on a hot day!

FROZEN STRAWBERRY DESSERT

Start with one cup of organic flour of your choice - you may use whole barley, OR (for gluten-free) whole brown rice or whole buckwheat, or coconut flour or almond meal - or a mix of them!

2 tbsp. raw honey
1/2 cup cold butter
1.2 cup sliced or chopped almonds or pecans

Mix flour and honey in a small bowl.  Grate the cold butter into the mixture, stir until well blended.  Stir in the nuts.  Press the mixture into a 9x9 pan and bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, or until lightly browned around the edges.  Cool in the pan on a wire rack.

Frozen organic strawberries, thawed - one 10-oz. bag or 2 cups
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup raw honey
1 to 1 1/4 cups of raw or organic whipping cream, whipped

In a large mixing bowl, mix the berries, juice, and honey until they are well blended.   Carefully fold in the whipped cream with a flat spatula, until well mixed.

Crumble the cooled nut mixture, and reserve 1/2 cup for topping.  Sprinkle the remaining crumbs into an 8-inch square pan.  Pour the strawberry mixture over the crumbs, then top with the reserved crumbs.  Cover well and store in the freezer for at least 6 hours.    9 servings.  You should be able to serve this almost directly from the freezer - no need to thaw
