Dr. Thropay's Household Products
ARE YOU BEING POISONED BY YOUR DAILY ROUTINE?
A typical morning for many people might include: Wake up to a digital alarm clock, wash hands with antibacterial
soap, wash face with a special cleanser, brush teeth with Crest or Colgate, take a shower with
scented gel, shampoo with a popular scented shampoo and matching conditioner, put on a moisturizer or
sunscreen, spray on perfume or cologne, apply make-up – foundation, blush, mascara, and lipstick. Before
even leaving the house for work, a person can be exposed to a multitude of harmful chemicals, dyes, and
colorings! These items can cause serious damage to the nervous system of one whose immune system is
struggling, and even in a healthier person can hinder the ability to achieve optimal health. But there are
great options for reducing and/or eliminating this potential threat to our health. Although we can’t control
general pollution out there, we can choose products that do not compromise our personal environments.
The following are suggested:
Toothpaste FLOURIDE FREE - Tom’s of Maine • Nature’s Gate • Jason’s

Drawing winners and More on aluminum
Special congratulations to our January drawing winners!
The grand prize of a complete NutriBullet system went to DIANA COTA. What a great way to get those greens and other veggies down each day.
Second prize went to LOIS GIRON, who will enjoy an expert full-hour therapeutic massage from Elvira.
Third prize of a large bottle of Catalyn was drawn by ELAINE KRUPP. Many thanks to everyone who participated by coming in for service in January!
Several months ago, we talked about the dangers of aluminum entering the body and the type of damage it does. Here are a few more points to consider on this subject. (From a well-documented article by Dr. J.M. Skowron)
1. To test Alzheimer's medications, pharmaceutical researchers inject mice with aluminum to give the mice the brain damage that is seen in Alzheimer's patients. In other words, they know that aluminum causes the disease...but they try to manage the affects of one poison (aluminum) with another (a drug).
2. Children who were fed aluminum-containing formula as infants score lower on mental developmental tests than those that were fed aluminum-free formula.
3. People accidentally exposed to high levels of aluminum manifest memory loss, depression, fatigue, learning disabilities, and behavioral changes.
4. Aluminum in its natural form abounds in the earth, and is tolerated fairly well by the body. Industrial aluminum is "refined" into a changed and concentrated form before being ingested into our bodies. The CDC admits that aluminum's safety is assumed and it has not been thoroughly tested.
5. The amount of aluminum you ingest minus the amount your body is able to excrete in the urine equals the remainder that causes brain damage. Alzheimer's, dementia, autism, auto-immune conditions - all have clear connections to aluminum.
6. The three greatest sources of commercial aluminum are antacids, buffered aspirin, and vaccines (flu, Hep B, Hib, DTaP, pneumococcus, hep A. polio).
7. Vaccine safety literature will claim that orally ingested aluminum is safe. However, injected aluminum is 100% absorbed and is known to damage the brain more than any other part of the body. That fact is not reported in the literature.
Once again, we are so grateful for Susana and Nutrition Response Testing in our office! Her evaluations not only reveal the presence of aluminum, but the specific tools for your body to drain it out, while adopting a lifestyle that will keep it out. We cannot emphasize enough how much more valuable these natural real solutions are than mere symptom management for a dead-end diagnosis.

Mighty Microbes
"Friendly bacteria have long been known to block the growth of toxin-producing organisms."
Dr. Royal Lee wrote the above quote in the 1950s. He was referring to the vital role that beneficial intestinal microbes play in human health.
Sixty years later, the "Microbiome Project" made big science news in 2013. This enormous study revealed more details than we've ever known on the subject of gut bacteria.
While we've long known that we need friendly intestinal bacteria to prevent such things as diarrhea, constipation, colitis, cramps, gas, diverticulitis, colon and rectal cancer, etc....it is now apparent that a healthy balance of friendly versus enemy gut "bugs" does much more than that!
These amazing microscopic critters greatly influence our getting, preventing, and curing conditions like diabetes, obesity, autoimmune disease, heart disease, depression and/or anxiety, insomnia, and much more.
They are also, as Dr. Lee indicated, closely involved with detoxifying foreign substances out of the body.
You thought that your immune system is composed of your spleen, tonsils, and adenoids and lymph glands? Partly true. The climate in your gut also has a huge "voice" in a healthy immune system!.
Simply put, we need to understand that the integrity of our digestive systems is critical to good health.
Dr. Lee also said, "Good food is only 'good' if you can digest it." So, to a diet of organic whole, real foods, add digestive enzymes at each meal, to replace the loss of stomach acid as we've mentioned before. Avoid antacids. Come in and get checked for ProSynbiotic or other friendly bacterial support that your body requires.
You may well be amazed at your increased energy and vitality!

Meat matters
For our Kitchen Q. and A. today, we're featuring questions we have been frequently asked over the years.
Q. What is the best meat to eat?
A. Healthy meat means "Yes" to grass-fed (as in beef or lamb), free range (as in chickens or turkeys), wild-caught in the cleanest possible waters (as in fish). It also means "Yes" to organic feed for supplemental use.
On the other hand, healthy meat means "No" to antibiotics or hormones - which are used to inflate the animals' weight quickly - and "No" to pesticided and GMO grain feeds and unnaturally confined lives in cages or dirt lots or fish farms. These negatives are passed on in various damaging ways to those who eat the meat.

These negatives are passed on in various damaging ways to those who eat the meat.
Q. Where can I buy healthy meat?
A. Costco carries both organic ground beef and organic chickens and chicken parts. Trader Joe's has the same, and some canned wild Alaskan salmon. Sprouts is another source. Check your local grocer, as well. Ralphs carries organic ground beef, and Albertsons has organic chicken. Certain farmers' markets also carry organic meat - the Saturday market in Downey is one. As the popularity of eating more healthfully continues to grow, more commercial markets are listening and responding to the demand. That's good, so keep asking them!
Q. But what if I can't afford to buy healthy meat regularly?
A. That's a valid concern, because organic meat does cost more than the "regular" kind. We believe it's very important to prioritize this issue of healthful protein in your diet. Remember that quality trumps quantity here. Train yourself to live with smaller portions of meat - that will save money.
Another tip - as you clean up your diet in general, the unhealthful items you stop purchasing will free up a surprising amount of money for better things. For example: Eliminating five $7.00 trips to Starbuck's each week means you have an extra $35.00 to spend on healthful food! With careful menu planning, that will feed your whole family with organic meat dinners for the week.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Come and celebrate 2015 with us! For every service you receive at our office in January - nutrition, chiropractic, massage - your name will be entered into our drawing. Triple or double your chances by visiting multiple practitioners in one visit! We will also enter your name three times when you refer someone new who comes to us this month.
The drawing will take place on January 30th, and there will be three winners:
3rd prize - a large bottle of our popular multi-supplement Catalyn - a $40 value
2nd prize - a full-hour massage from Elvira - $45 value
GRAND PRIZE - a complete NutriBullet system - a $120 value!
Winners will be notified by telephone, and their names published in our weekly newsletter after the drawing.
You may have noticed the price change. As of February 1st, 2015, our still very competitive massage fees will be $45 for a full-hour massage, and $30 for a half-hour massage. You have the month of January to come in and take advantage of our old prices!
This year we will be featuring a "Kitchen Q. and A." in our newsletter. Feel free to submit any questions you may have about cooking or eating healthfully. We'll publish the answers each week in this letter, or even write you privately if you prefer.
Today's question has come to us numerous times:
"What is the best type of cookware to use?"
Answer. High-quality stainless steel "waterless" cookware is ideal for a full set of pots and pans. We recommend looking online for the best prices. (Follow the manufacturer's directions, and use wooden implements to protect the inside finish.) The new ceramic coated non-stick pans are also great. Clay, glass, or Corningware are fine, too.
And, of course, always avoid aluminum touching your food. Metal particles in foil and pots transfer into the food and give your body grief, sooner or later. Aluminum is highly implicated in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other autoimmune conditions, and a host of other problems.
We look forward to your feedback on our new feature. See you soon!
Please call for your appointments at (562) 861-3896.

Changed name, same game
In recent years, the dangers of Aspartame have come to public notice, with the result that many people have been avoiding it. In hopes of regaining business, the manufacturer of this artificial sweetener has put a new face upon the product. You may now see it advertised as "AminoSweet." But don't be fooled! It's still Aspartame.
This chemical calamity is known for its neurotoxic effects, causing brain and nerve damage, cancerous tumors, and glandular failure. Through intensive lobbying, it was granted FDA approval in 1974 - forty years ago! That's how long it took for public awareness - and wariness - to reach the level that made Ajinomoto decide upon this new marketing scheme.
"Pure sweetness from amino acids" was the catch phrase they chose. Notice the clever deceptiveness of the word "pure" in this context. It can have two connotations:
1) only this item and nothing else - like "pure olive oil." Nothing has been added. Pure sweetness fits this category - nothing but sweetness.
2) clean and untainted - like "pure drinking water." No contaminants. Nothing that would hurt you.
Doesn't "pure sweetness" give a subtle suggestion of the second meaning? It's pure, so that means clean, natural and safe, right?
Wrong!
As the old saying goes, "Let the buyer beware."
Tomorrow evening (Thursday the 20th) at 6:00 we'll be having a class in the office. In view of the busy holiday season, Mrs. Thropay will be focusing on quick and easy healthful cooking. There will be food served that reflects this theme. All are welcome!
If you are interested in attending, please call and let Antonia know. There is a $5 fee for each attendee. Hope to see you there!

Cayenne Pepper: The Miracle Herb That Everyone Should Be Taking

“If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper. It is more powerful than any other.” Dr. Schulze
“In 35 years of practice, and working with the people and teaching, I have never on house calls lost one heart attack patient and the reason is, whenever I go in–if they are still breathing–I pour down them a cup of cayenne tea (a teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of hot water, and within minutes they are up and around).” Dr. Christopher
Dr. Patrick Quillin “Cayenne pepper – prized for thousands of years for its healing power. Folklore from around the world recounts amazing results using cayenne pepper in simple healing and in baffling health problems. But cayenne pepper is not just a healer from ancient history.
Recent clinical studies have been conducted on many of the old-time health applications for this miracle herb. Again and again, the therapeutic value of cayenne pepper has been medically validated.
In a recent letter to the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine, three Italian doctors describe how they were able to reduce patients’ reported dyspepsia symptoms by more than half – by prescribing red pepper powder. In a study of 30 patients with functional dyspepsia, half of the participants received a placebo, while the other half took 2.5 grams of red pepper powder each day (divided into capsules taken before each of three meals). Both groups took their respective treatments for five weeks, and rated their symptoms each day on a scale of zero to three (higher scores indicated more severe symptoms). By the third week, the red pepper group showed a significant advantage over the control group. And by week five, the pepper group’s symptoms had declined 60 percent from their baseline scores – while the control group’s scores had only decreased about half as much. The symptom scores included ratings for pain, a feeling of fullness, nausea, and an overall score. The red pepper powder produced significant gains in all four areas.

10 Reasons You Should Be Eating More Olives
Olives are one of the oldest and healthiest foods known to man. They were grown widely, traded and eaten in the ancient Mediterranean, and stone mortars and presses used for olive oil extraction date as far back as 5000 BC! The wood from the trees were used for fuel and construction, and the olive fruit and oil remain one of the oldest medicines known to man (it is, indeed, a fruit).
Here are 10 reasons why you should eating more of them:
#1 – Oleic Acid
#1 – Oleic Acid
Oleic acid comprises of 75% of the fat in olives. It is a monounsaturated fat that helps to lower blood cholesterol levels, promote the development of bones and marrow, maintain balance in the metabolism and prevent oxidization. This is a great fat to introduce into your diet and is liquid at room temperature.
#2 – Copper
1 cup of black olives provides 38% of your daily value of copper. Copper is central to building strong tissue, maintaining blood volume, and producing energy in your cells. It is required to manufacture collagen, a major structural protein in the body, and functions as a co-factor in the formation of the anti-oxidizing enzyme “superoxide dismutase.”
#3 – Iron
That same cup of black olives will provide you with 1/4 of your daily iron requirement (Olives are the most iron-rich fruit in the world). Iron is contained in hemoglobin, which exists within the red blood cells in your body. It is extremely important in the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. It is also magnetic. If you’ve ever wondered how the magnetic field produced by your body directly relates to your biological health, think about that iron moving around.
#4 – Weight Loss
When replacing saturated fats, olive oil has shown to reduce insulin insensitivity and help break down fat inside of fat cells. The aroma extracts in olive oil have also been known to leave people feeling more full.
#5 – Cancer Prevention
In addition to the abundance of anti-oxidants and anti-inflamitory acids, olives contain squalene and terpenoid, two compounds that work to neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals on the body’s cells.
#6 – Heart Health
Olive oil contains biophenols, which reduce blood pressure and supress the synthesis of LDLs (Low-density lipoproteins). LDLs are known as “bad cholesterol” and the biophenols help prevent them from hardening the arterial walls (which could, otherwise, lead to atherosclerosis).
#7 – Pain Reduction
A compound within olives, called oleocanthal, has notable anti-inflamitory properties resembling those of ibuprofen. Though structurally dissimilar to ibuprofen, they both inhibit an enzyme called cyclooxygenase and help prevent inflamation.
#8 – Prevention Of Stomach Ulcers
Helicobacter pylori is a stomach ulcer inducing bacteria found in gastric acid and has developed some resistance to anti-biotics throughout the world. In-vitro studies have shown that some phenols from olive oil can destroy 8 strains of H. pylori and may be a legitimate chemopreventive agent for peptic ulcers or gastric cancer.
#9 – Vitamin E, Vitamin A, And Fiber
The nutrient rich olive is full of hugely beneficial vitamins that help improve vision, digestion, skin and hair health and the list goes on.
#10 – They Taste Great!
Olives taste awesome. Yes, this is an opinion. Cured olives go great on anything from pizza, to martinis, to salads and sandwiches, to breads. Their mild, yet pungent deliciousness permeates cultures and restaraunts around the world. Hopefully, you have a jar in your refrigerator right now. I ate 3 of them earlier while I was writing this article and I’m about to eat more.
So, go out and get a bottle of olive oil and another jar of olives. Treat yourself to one of the greatest foods in the world often, and share the knowlege of their health benefits, as well as their flavors, with your family and friends!

How to cut food costs
Budget getting out of control? Take a look at these ideas for saving money on groceries, while at the same time helping your health.
1. Learn to cook. It's easy! Healthful meals are very basic and simple to prepare, with a few general principles to guide you. And there's lots of online help these days, with step-by-step recipes, tips, and more.
2. Take fewer trips to the grocery store. We all do "impulse buying" at the market, spending an average of $10 extra per trip. So if you shop once per week, instead of three times, that will save about $20 per week right there - or $80+ per month.
3. Break up the restaurant routine. Go out for dinner once a week, instead of three times. If your meals average $20 per time, you will save $160 per month.
4. Pack your own lunch for work. By spending about $3 per lunch instead of the $6 average that "buying out" costs, you will save at least $60 per month.
5. Buy healthful foods cheaper.
- We always recommend the local farmers' market for organic or "no-chemicals" produce. Ask questions about the farming practices, and choose your vendors carefully.
- Vitamin City in north Long Beach usually has lower prices than other health food stores or markets.
- When you can, buy in bulk any items that you will totally use up.
6. Make leftovers count. Most Americans waste about 14% of their food purchases of meat, fruit, vegetables, and grain products. That alone adds up to an average of at least $600 per year per family! Tips to avoid this:
- Make sure to purchase only what you will use
- Refrigerate your leftovers as soon as they are lukewarm, and use them within couple of days as a casserole or hash (They will normally keep well for up to a week, but it's easy to forget about them!) Re-heat gently.
- Don't get hung up on "use by" dates. Those are placed by the food producers, and they do a great job of guaranteeing repeat business! Most canned or packaged foods are fine after those dates.
7. Re-visit the snack issue. Making your own snacks, drinking water more often, and cutting down on the number of times you "munch" every day will all give you mega-savings!
Saving money AND eating more healthfully - it's a win-win situation!
We'd love to know your favorite money-saving tips. Write us back to share your suggestions, or call us at (562) 861-3896.

PLAYING TO WIN
"Thropay Health Center has helped me gain a healthier lifestyle and has enabled me to become a better athlete." C.K.
C.K. is one of our Nutrition clients. As she noted, her improved lifestyle from her customized nutrition program has resulted in better performance as an athlete.
Chiropractic also 'plays' an important 'position' on the athletic 'field.' Here are enlightening testimonials from a couple of professionals:
Gerald Wilkins, New York Knicks - "My shooting has improved because of chiropractic. I feel more balanced and have more coordination and control. Since I have been under chiropractic care, I have improved by leaps and bounds."
Dan O'Brien, Olympic Declathlete - "Chiropractic is essential for running. If I could put a percentage value on it, I would say that I compete 8-10% better from regular Chiropractic."
Not a professional athlete? Whether or no, the same guidelines apply to any and all who wish to have that winning edge.
Here are a few tips for you to naturally and healthfully improve your game and help prevent injuries:
1) During the game, drink "nature's Gatorade," which is NOT Gatorade nor PowerAde, but coconut water to replace lost electrolytes. Get a plain, unsweetened brand, such as from Trader Joe's, with no additives. You may even start a new healthy trend for your team!
2) Take supplements that support both ligaments and heart - specifically, Ligaplex I and Cardio-Plus from Standard Process (sold here). Both of these are concentrated whole food supplements, of course. They should be taken with meals and be a daily part of your diet during the athletic season, at least. What a success story!
Often, our patients "say it better" than we can. Here's a delightful example that speaks for itself:
"When I first came to see Susana for Nutrition Response Testing, I was battling constant fatigue, and I continually ached all over. A daily nap was essential for me just to keep going. I was so tired of being tired!
Nights were miserable, too, because I didn't sleep well. I kept waking up throughout the night.
My customized nutritional program included some big dietary changes, along with several specific, concentrated whole-food supplements. In just a few weeks, I had so much more energy. I was sleeping very well at night, and it was great to be able to get through the day without aching all over. The old daily nap was no longer needed!
My body proved to be extremely sensitive to certain food items which were key in causing my health problems. I had some BIG setbacks in my healing when I would eat something from my "no-no" list. Eventually, after several ups and downs, I settled into being totally strict with my diet and faithful with the entire program.
This dedicated commitment certainly has paid off. Now I've reached the point where my body is healed so well, and my diet is so pure, that I no longer need any supplements!
I can truly say that everything was well worth it!"
Our special thanks to R.D. for sharing her story with us all. It is inspiring to see her now with a constant bright smile, in place of the sadness that formerly characterized her as she tried to cope with a busy life while feeling physically ill. Needless to say, her family is thrilled at the difference, too!
Do you know anyone who needs just such a turnaround? Bring them in this month and take advantage of our July promo - $10 off your $50 purchase from us. Please call us for a convenient appointment time, and for more details about the promo.

We hear a lot about "Women's Health," and maybe a little less about "Men's Health." One risk that both men and women share in common is potential disruption of their endocrine systems. These glands control the levels and performance of hormones in the body.
Today let's focus on just ONE of the endocrine glands - the thyroid. This small gland has a big job description that includes weight control, by regulating the body's fat storage and fat burning processes.
If the internal climate of the body makes the thyroid work harder, the person develops a condition called hyperthyroidism. When the thyroid slows down, the condition is called hypothyroidism. Both mean "trouble."
Although SOY products are said to be low-carb, low-fat, low-glycemic, and high protein, and touted as healthy foods, they are actually very hard on the thyroid gland.
a) Over time, they cause hypothyroidism - this comes with weight gain, fatigue, lethargy, and often depression, anxiety, bi-polar and similar conditions resulting from the hormonal imbalance
b) Estrogenization results from the phytoestrogens (called isoflavones) in soy. In women, this can increase the risk of breast cancer, among other things. In men, the imbalance created by this "mimic" estrogen affects their testosterone-estrogen ratio.
Some short-term studies show that eating soy stimulates the thyroid to overwork itself (hyperthyroidism) with a temporary effect of increased metabolism, energy, and weight loss. This seems exciting at first glance. However, that type of thyroid stress soon exhausts the gland, and sends it into permanent hypothyroidism.
The medications given to individuals who are considered to have hypothyroidism come with their own complications.
First, many times the individual is actually experiencing an overworking thyroid, despite the blood test analysis! Our specialized Nutrition Response Testing will reveal this, and we will show the person appropriate steps so the body can correct the situation on its own. Taking the medication would only stimulate the thyroid further, thus compounding the problem.
Second, as with any medication that has the goal of achieving the "right" numbers on a blood test, the actual cause(s) of the thyroid gland's problem is never addressed. Instead, the thyroid is artificially forced to do something it is not ready to do - but WOULD do under the right conditions.
Giving the body the climate and tools for good health is the best way to ensure a balanced thyroid function. It just makes sense to us!

THROPAY CHIROPRACTIC and NUTRITION CENTER where healthy happens!
Our family has had such good results with Thropay Chiropractic/ Nutritional Center. Personally, I've never felt as good or as healthy as I have since we started programs with them. Highly recommend Thropay for general chiropractic work and especially their Nutritional Response Testing. Haven't had a chance to take them up on their new massage therapy yet; but if it's as good as their chiropractic and nutritional programs, I'm sure I'd recommend that, too. A+++

Better Health is "Equal-Opportunity"!
So many times old age is used as an excuse not to seek better health.
"Oh, I have arthritis, and I'll just have to live with it."
"Nutrition can't help me now. I'm too old."
We've all heard people say such things, right? Yet, the same people will often willingly accept 5-10 toxic medications which cause, in turn, a downward spiral effect on their health.
But of course, senior citizens are not alone in making excuses for not actively involving themselves in seeking genuine health improvement.
As Dr. Hal Crowe is fond of saying, "We are all a portrait of our own histories." What he means is that lifestyle, diet, injuries, occupation, etc. all contribute to our current health status.
If that is true, so is the opposite! We can significantly improve our personal health level by changing our lifestyle and diet, and maintaining structural integrity. That's the message of our office with customized nutrition, chiropractic, and massage therapy. And it's really not that hard! And the rewards are unbeatable!
Many of you "get" that, and we want your help to spread the message to others. One way is to qualify for our SPRING DRAWING by referring someone new to our office in April. The grand prize is a $50 Visa gift card! There will also be TWO second prizes of a free one-hour massage from Elvira (value $40 each).
So, get YOUR name in the box this month by bringing or sending someone to us for nutrition, chiropractic, OR massage therapy. Your name will be entered EACH time you refer someone who comes in for our services.
Thank you for your help! We appreciate each of our wonderful clients.
Our number is (562) 861-3896.
