Hints for Health re: Dry Cleaning

53KjJTao_400x400
Everybody knows the importance of using the right methods to keep clothing both clean and in tip-top shape.  That's why we often run to the dry cleaners' with our suits and other professional or delicate garments.

But with the continued proliferation of volatile toxic chemicals (VOCs) in our current environment, there is increased awareness of the need to change dry cleaning methods - particularly the use of perchloroethylene (PERC) for the purpose.  This chemical has been pointed out by the EPA as cancer-causing to humans.  It can also cause damage to the kidneys, liver, and nervous system.

So what solutions have come up?  Well, there is good news and bad news.  Let's do the bad news first:

"Organic" dry cleaning - unfortunately, this is not guaranteed to be free of toxic chemicals.  Any cleaning substance that contains carbon can be labeled organic - even PERC! - because there are no rules regulating this practice.  If you want to use an organic dry cleaning establishment, ask them for a complete list of the chemicals they use before you decide.

Now for the good news!  There are several tips we can follow to reduce our exposure to toxic dry cleaning chemicals:

1) Some garments that say "Dry Clean Only" -  including many wool, silk, and rayon products - can actually be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water with a very mild soap. There are online articles to help you with the details of how to dry, whether to iron, etc.

2) There are "Wet Cleaning" places that are worth looking up as an alternative.  Inquire about your specific garments when you call them.

3) For those items that simply MUST be dry-cleaned, when they are cleaned, immediately hang them outdoors in a sheltered, well-ventilated area.  Remove the plastic bag and allow them to air out completely for at least 24 hours, but preferably several days.

4) As often as possible, purchase clothing that doesn't require dry cleaning.  Try to avoid flame-retardant fabrics as well.  If you do purchase these, give them the "hanging out" treatment before washing and then wearing them.

Closets can attract moths, so many people use mothballs to chase away the moths.  But mothballs are made of paradichlorobenzene, which is a strong carcinogen linked to leukemia and lymphoma in children.  It doesn't remain in the closet, either - this powerful chemical will spread throughout the house.

But there is a much better way to control moths! Cedar wood is a natural moth repellent. A cedar chest can be purchased - wonderful for wool blankets. For clean clothes, if you don't have a cedar closet, store them in sealed bags with cedar blocks or balls.

Ready to spring clean?

Spring_Cleaning-300x315
We're repeating our March promo from last year - our amazing Standard Process 21-day Purification Program at a 15% discount off the kit price!
In case you are wondering about the benefits of this purifying program, here are a few things that will happen if you follow the instructions diligently. You will:
- manage your weight. This is the best program we know of that takes off unnecessary pounds while improving your health and bringing a glow to your face.
- support and enhance the performance of your "toxic elimination team" (liver, kidneys, small and large intestines) to gently but thoroughly remove the many toxins that accumulate in your body over time. Remember, there are about 80,000 chemicals registered for use in the U.S. Hundreds of these are present in our bodies, according to the CDC.
- kick-start yourself to a better lifestyle for your health. This program helps eliminate and change the harmful food cravings we can develop. Your taste buds will come alive, and you will find yourself enjoying foods you previously disliked - such as vegetables! This makes "eating right" so much easier as a way of life.
If you have already done the 21-day Purification Program in the past, you will relate to what I'm saying. And it's a great maintenance tool that should be repeated at least once per year.
Occasionally, someone's body is SO toxic that they can't handle the Purification Program before making some preliminary changes. We strongly recommend that everyone come to Susana for evaluation to make sure you are ready to start, before beginning the program.
We're here as your cheerleading team! Most of us here have done this program ourselves, and we all highly recommend it. Perhaps you know someone else who would be interested. Everyone will get the discount, as long as the purchase is made during March.
Give us a call right away to reserve your kit(s) at (562) 861-3896. And happy spring cleaning! Your body will thank you!

Cancer cancelled

x9NsrPmg

This patient improvement story is so impressive that we are sharing it with you in its entirety today.
"In 2007 I was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor. My medical doctor and I both knew that this was a death sentence. During the same exam, gallstones were also found. Obviously, the tumor caused me far greater concern than the gallstones.
My first step was to see Dr. Thropay at Thropay Chiropractic and Nutrition for nutritional counseling. During his evaluation he pointed out several things to me:
a) cancer thrives on sugar in all its forms - granulated white sugar, brown sugar, or even flour products
b) cancer thrives where there are heavy metals present in the body
c) body scars can impede the body's healing mechanism and should be treated with sesame oil, wheat germ oil or cold laser, or a combination of these.
Immediately, I began eliminating sugar and flour products from my diet, draining the heavy metals out (under his direction) and treating my scars. Within the year on a follow-up evaluation with my medical doctor, I was informed that my gallstones had shrunk. I had to ASK her about the pancreatic tumor. She acknowledged then that it was no longer visible on their diagnostic tests! Instead of rejoicing with me, she made no comment other than, 'We need to address those gallstones now.'
In 2009 I was again diagnosed with cancer. Mammography revealed that there was a solid mass in my left breast. I returned to following my dietary restrictions more closely and went back to Dr. Thropay. He repeated his original advice and recommended some concentrated whole food supplements and herbs.
I followed all his recommendations super-conscientiously, and added juiced organic vegetables to my daily routine. This cancer was more stubborn than the first one - perhaps partly due to the mammography (which can spread existing cancer by means of the extreme trauma to the tissue), and/or the added scar tissue from the biopsy. The tumor showed signs of growing, and in fact put out two 'daughter' satellite strands in the same breast. Dr. Thropay's brother, an oncologist, was also monitoring my case at this point. I did not want radiation, chemotherapy, or surgery, but I accepted some hormone therapy that he suggested might partially shrink the tumor - and then he would want me to have a lumpectomy (surgery).
Meanwhile, I diligently treated all my scars daily, took all the supplements and herbs, juiced raw greens, took lemon juice and baking soda every day, kept out the metals, and was absolutely pristine with my diet.
On September 24, 2014, the welcome news finally came. The cancer was completely gone - without surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy!
When she saw these test results, my primary medical physician was profoundly impressed. She then told me that the medical profession does know that we can reduce or eradicate cancer by correcting our diet. But most people are unwilling to follow such a strict diet indefinitely - eliminating all processed sugars and junk food, eating only organic whole foods. Because of that, she said, most doctors don't even suggest it.
It's not a problem for me! I've been through enough to realize how essential it is for me to continue this lifestyle perpetually. I have so much energy and feel great, and everyone comments on how good I look.
I am so grateful that THROPAY HEALTH CENTER steered me in the right direction!

How to Help Your Thyroid with a Simple and Natural Oil

heal-thyroid-virgin-coconut-oil
Many Americans suffer from symptoms such as cold hands and feet, low body temperature, sensitivity to cold, a feeling of always being chilled, headaches, insomnia, dry skin, puffy eyes, hair loss, brittle nails, joint aches, constipation, mental dullness, fatigue, frequent infections, hoarse voice, ringing in the ears, dizziness, loss of libido, and weight gain, which is sometimes uncontrollable.
Approximately 65 percent of the U.S. population is overweight; 27 percent is clinically obese. Research is pointing to the fact that an underactive thyroid might be the number one cause of weight problems, especially among women.
Because coconut oil is saturated and very stable (unrefined coconut oil has a shelf life of about three to five years at room temperature), the body is not burdened with oxidative stress as it is with the vegetable oils. Coconut oil does not require the enzyme stress that vegetable oils do, preventing T4 to T3 hormone conversion, not only because it is a stable oil, but also because it is processed differently in the body and does not need to be broken down by enzyme dependent processes as do long-chain fatty acids.
Also, since the liver is the main place where damage occurs from oxidized and rancid oils that cause cell membrane damage, and since the liver is where much of the conversion of T4 to T3 takes place, eliminating long-chain fatty acids from the diet and replacing them with medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil can, in time, help in rebuilding cell membranes and increasing enzyme production that will assist in promoting the conversion of T4 to T3 hormones.
More research in this area is necessary. In the meantime, those switching from polyunsaturated oils to coconut oil are reporting many positive results. For example, Donna has experienced encouraging improvements in her thyroid health. She writes:
“I’VE BEEN ON COCONUT OIL SINCE SEPTEMBER 2002 AND, ALTHOUGH, THAT DOESN’T SEEM LIKE LONG, IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. MY WEIGHT ACTUALLY WENT UP WHEN I STARTED ON COCONUT OIL BUT I FELT SO GREAT! BEING HYPOTHYROID, I WAS ON SYNTHROID AND CYTOMEL AND HAD BEEN FOR YEARS, BUT WITH INCONSISTENT RESULTS AND FEELING WORSE. OTHER CHANGES BESIDES THE ADDITION OF COCONUT OIL WERE THE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF SOY (AND THAT IS A MAJOR CHALLENGE IN ITSELF!), ALL TRANS FATTY ACIDS, NO REFINED SUGAR, AND ORGAN CLEANSES SEASONALLY.
MY THYROID MEDS WERE DISCONTINUED WITH MY DOCTOR’S KNOWLEDGE AS I WAS GETTING TOO ENERGETIC AND HAVING TROUBLE SLEEPING! [IMAGINE], FROM BEING A ‘SLEEPAHOLIC’COUCH POTATO THAT WAS COLD! MY WEIGHT STAYED STEADY UNTIL THE LAST THREE WEEKS AND IT HAS NOW STARTED THE DOWNWARD MOVE. MY GOAL WAS HEALTH AND JUST BELIEVED THE WEIGHT WOULD COME OFF WHEN I FOUND THE RIGHT DIET AND EXERCISE ROUTINE THAT MY LIFE WAS COMFORTABLE WITH. I’VE TRIED REMOVING THE COCONUT OIL BUT MY ENERGY DROPS AND I DON’T FEEL AS GOOD. DONNA”

This Is What Your Acne Reveals About Your Health

YOUR HEALTH

this-is-what-acne-tells-about-your-health
In Chinese Medicine, it’s believed that acne that flares up on different parts of your face represents health problems on different parts of your body. For example acne on your upper cheeks is a response to stress in your lungs or respiratory system. Smoking is but one of these causes (read on for more). Therefore a good indication of which organs need attention and care is to simply look where your acne is

UPPER FOREHEAD

Digestive System and Bladder
Drink plenty of water to flush, keep an eye on your diet, eliminate greasy foods and refined sugars. If you’re craving deep fried fatty foods, eat avocado or add a tablespoon of coconut oil to your dish. Make sure you consume plenty of fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Some of the best antioxidant rich foods or drinks include green tea, warm lemon water, and fresh berries. If your diet is not rich in naturally fermented foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, or kefir, consider supplementing with a probiotic capsule daily. Most health food stores carry probiotic capsules.

LOWER FOREHEAD

Heart
Your heart is a massive organ that pumps blood through your entire body. It has a tough job and can become easily stressed due to poor diet, inactivity, and various mental and physical stresses. If you have pimples on your lower forehead make it a point to do regular cardiovascular exercises. Eating pomegranate andcoconut oil will also keep your heart healthy and help clear this up.
acne face

EARS

Kidneys
When kidneys are not taken care of, you may find large, painful pimples on your ears that just won’t go away. Kidney troubles are often caused by not drinking enough water and eating too much sodium.

Some other kidney destroying habits include:
-frequently delaying the call of nature
-drinking too much coffee or alcohol
-mineral deficiencies such as magnesium
-eating too much animal protein
-sleep deprivation
-excessive refined sugar

This is as good of a time as any to point out that vendors such as Subway, who tout their products as being “healthy” have an excessive amount of sodium added to almost everything on the menu. The next time that you take a look at their nutrition claims with highlighted low-fat content, take a minute to focus on the sodium column. In addition Subway adds genetically modified soy to nearly all of their foods. If you want healthy kidneys it’s best to avoid fast food in general, even the “healthy” restaurants, drink more water, and eat more parsley which is an excellent detoxifier.

EYES, ORBITAL AREA AND BETWEEN THE EYEBROWS

Liver

Oiliness, redness, flakiness and pimples between the eyebrows can indicate that your liver may have been overworked and in dire need of a cleansing. Cut back on greasy foods loaded with vegetable, soy, and canola oil, alcohol and pasteurized dairy (or dairy altogether). Avoid eating late at night as well. If you’re craving a late snack take a spoonful of raw honey. This will let your liver rest while you’re sleeping. Eat more of these during the daytime to cleanse the liver (always choose organic root vegetables):
-garlic
-grapefruit
-green tea
-carrots
-beets
-leafy green vegetables
-lemons and limes.

UPPER CHEEKS

Lungs and Respiratory System

Stresses to the lungs are likely to cause flare ups in the upper cheeks and even break your capillaries. Even if you’re not a smoker you may have noticed an upper cheek breakout due to:
-asthma
-allergies
-lung infections
-living in a polluted area.

The best thing to do is to avoid smoking and second hand smoke. Follow this link for 15 plants that can cleanse the lungs and boost respiratory health.

LOWER CHEEKS

Gum or Teeth Problems

Gum or teeth problems may contribute to acne in the lower cheek area. Be sure to avoid eating refined sugar and soft drinks. Oil pulling is a great habit to take up if you’re experiencing any type of gum or teeth problems. It’s also a good idea to eat plenty of fresh fiber rich fruits and vegetables to strengthen your teeth and gums from chewing honest natural foods.

SIDES OF THE CHIN

Hormones and Genitals

This especially affects women. Flare ups on the sides of the chin are a good indication of hormonal imbalance. This can be due to menstruation, birth control, or a diet high in soy. Sometimes, even emotional or physical stress can cause hormonal imbalances. Get plenty of sleep and make a habit of meditating or doing yoga to keep the mind focused and stress-free. Be sure to take lots of essential fatty acids such as Omega 3s. Follow this link for a list of foods rich in Omega-3s.

Some herbs that can help balance hormones include:
-licorice
-schisandra
-holy basil
-maca
-burdock
-red raspberry leaves
-rhodiola
-milk thisle.
-Green tea is also a brilliant anti-androgen.

CENTER OF THE CHIN

Small intestine and stomach

This is typically caused by a poor diet and food allergies. If your diet is adequate you simply may not be digesting the nutrients you put into it. We were always told that we are what we eat, which is true to an extent. More accurately however, we are what we can digest. If your gut is lacking probiotics and completely out of balance from not eating naturally fermented foods or taking probiotic capsules, it won’t matter how much good wholesome food you’re eating. The nutrients will simply pass right through you. Refer to the upper forehead section to learn more about what to eat to get your gut working properly.
Additionally stress, lack of sleep, and dehydration can wreak havoc on your stomach and small intestine. Getting a good nights sleep, drinking plenty of water, and addressing your stress by making lifestyle changes and practicing yoga/meditation are great non-dietary ways to address your chin acne.

Top 10 Natural Remedies for Swollen Ankles, Legs and Feet

natural-remedies-swollen-ankles-leg-feet-

Several years ago I was on a ferry between two Thai islands and got chatting to a girl sitting next to me. She complained of swollen legs and ankles, and when I looked at her more closely, I did notice her puffy feet. It always makes me worried to see someone’s leg swell. I think of all the serious conditions that could be connected with this symptom, including problems with the heart and kidneys, or a blood clot.
Indeed, if your lower limbs become swollen and you have other ominous signs to go with it – such as shortness of breath, fever, bluish skin (cyanosis) and chest pain – head for the emergency department immediately. Also, if one leg looks swollen, while the other one appears normal, see a doctor, as this unevenness could be a sign of deep venous thrombosis. Some prescription medication too can cause swelling, such as birth control pills, anti-depressants and medication for high blood pressure.
In the case of my fellow passenger, the condition was far from dangerous – it was just slightly uncomfortable for her. She happened to spend too much time sitting on trains and buses, and was also adapting to the humid tropical climate, so was feeling slightly dehydrated. She happily continued with her travels and was fine in a few days time.
Every case of swelling needs to be considered in its context to make sure you’re not missing a potentially serious condition. You need to be able to distinguish between harmless swelling and edema. In the case of edema, if you press on the puffy area, it stays pitted for a few seconds after. This could be a sign of heart, liver or kidney problems.
Very often leg swelling can be prevented by some simple measures and DIY techniques. Here are some examples you can follow to prevent the swelling, or to return to your previous swelling-free self:
1. Exercise! Exercising stimulates blood circulation and prevents the blood from pooling in your lower extremities. If you’re suffering from painful or inflamed legs, swimming can be the perfect solution. When you float, the impact is taken off your feet, which eases the discomfort. So find a pool, or take a dip in a nearby sea or lake. If you do yoga, go for the postures that make you lift your feet above the head. This is called an inversion and has many health benefits, including improved immunity and digestion. So start with your headstand as soon as you notice your feet swelling… and experience the thrill of it.
2. Elevate your legs. If you’re not quite ready for the headstand yet, try elevating your legs by putting them on a higher surface so that they are above the heart. Do that for 30 minutes, three times a day, and observe the difference. When you’re in bed, put a pillow under your ankles. This will help drain the excess fluid, so it can then get absorbed in the body, or is eliminated with urine.
3. If you sit for long periods of time, get up and walk around a bit. When your boss asks you what you are up to, explain that you are just trying to prevent your feet from swelling. Walking for 10 minutes, three times a day, should be enough to keep your tootsies healthy and happy.
4. When you travel, consider wearing compression socks. I know that they can be difficult to put on, but they do serve their purpose. They help the blood vessels with their elasticity, so that the blood doesn’t pool in your legs. Plus, they prevent varicose veins. Consider wearing them on long-haul flights and on long bus and train journeys. My travelling friend would certainly benefit from wearing them. Also, support/compression socks or stockings can be good for you if you’re already suffering from leg inflammation.
5. Eat healthy and avoid excess salt. A bit of salt is good for you, and is in fact needed for the body to function well. But too much salt can cause water retention and should be avoided. Caffeine too is a known culprit. So go easy on the salt and try to bring your coffee intake to a minimum. If you are overweight, consider losing some weight, so you reduce the pressure that is put on your muscles, joints and bones. Every little helps.
6. Stop smoking! Smoking is one of the top 10 habits to stop right now if you want to be healthy. I know, easier said than done. But think of all the rewards that come when you stop smoking. Having your feet less swollen is just one of them. Also, smoking is related to many (more serious) underlying conditions that can cause lower limb swelling.
7. Drink plenty of water. We are all guilty of often not drinking enough fluids. By drinking water throughout the day, we hydrate our tissues and detox the body. Sodium and caffeine, which contribute to feet inflammation, get diluted if we water ourselves sufficiently. Eight to ten glasses a day should be the norm. Drink more if you had some alcohol. So make sure you carry that water bottle with you. For added antioxidant value, squeeze some lime or lemon in or prepare your own flavored water.
8. Massage the painful area. Or even better, make someone else do it for you. Massaging your feet is extremely relaxing and improves your blood circulation. Use gentle but firm motions, and always go in the direction of the heart.
9. Soak your feet in Epsom salt and feel the bliss. I’ve written in the past about the great uses for Epsom salt, and I’m sure your legs and feet will appreciate the attention. If you feel like indulging yourself completely, add a few cups of sea salt to your bathwater and soak your whole body. Essential oils can help alleviate pain and discomfort too. Some popular choices are peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon and lavender that are all known to have anti-inflammatory properties.
10. Take magnesium supplements. Often feet inflammation, which can result in painful swelling, is connected to magnesium deficiency. A dose of 350 mg a day can make a difference, but always talk to your doctor before taking any supplement.
Keep your legs healthy and pain-free. Remember how well they’ve been serving you over the years, and return the favor!

10 Reasons You Should Be Eating More Olives

Olives are one of the oldest and healthiest foods known to man. They were grown widely, traded and eaten in the ancient Mediterranean, and stone mortars and presses used for olive oil extraction date as far back as 5000 BC! The wood from the trees were used for fuel and construction, and the olive fruit and oil remain one of the oldest medicines known to man (it is, indeed, a fruit).
Here are 10 reasons why you should eating more of them:

#1 – Oleic Acid
Oleic acid comprises of 75% of the fat in olives. It is a monounsaturated fat that helps to lower blood cholesterol levels, promote the development of bones and marrow, maintain balance in the metabolism and prevent oxidization. This is a great fat to introduce into your diet and is liquid at room temperature.
#2 – Copper
1 cup of black olives provides 38% of your daily value of copper. Copper is central to building strong tissue, maintaining blood volume, and producing energy in your cells. It is required to manufacture collagen, a major structural protein in the body, and functions as a co-factor in the formation of the anti-oxidizing enzyme “superoxide dismutase.”
#3 – Iron
That same cup of black olives will provide you with 1/4 of your daily iron requirement (Olives are the most iron-rich fruit in the world). Iron is contained in hemoglobin, which exists within the red blood cells in your body. It is extremely important in the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. It is also magnetic. If you’ve ever wondered how the magnetic field produced by your body directly relates to your biological health, think about that iron moving around.
#4 – Weight Loss
When replacing saturated fats, olive oil has shown to reduce insulin insensitivity and help break down fat inside of fat cells. The aroma extracts in olive oil have also been known to leave people feeling more full.
#5 – Cancer Prevention
In addition to the abundance of anti-oxidants and anti-inflamitory acids, olives contain squalene and terpenoid, two compounds that work to neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals on the body’s cells.
#6 – Heart Health
Olive oil contains biophenols, which reduce blood pressure and supress the synthesis of LDLs (Low-density lipoproteins). LDLs are known as “bad cholesterol” and the biophenols help prevent them from hardening the arterial walls (which could, otherwise, lead to atherosclerosis).
#7 – Pain Reduction
A compound within olives, called oleocanthal, has notable anti-inflamitory properties resembling those of ibuprofen. Though structurally dissimilar to ibuprofen, they both inhibit an enzyme called cyclooxygenase and help prevent inflamation.
#8 – Prevention Of Stomach Ulcers
Helicobacter pylori is a stomach ulcer inducing bacteria found in gastric acid and has developed some resistance to anti-biotics throughout the world. In-vitro studies have shown that some phenols from olive oil can destroy 8 strains of H. pylori and may be a legitimate chemopreventive agent for peptic ulcers or gastric cancer.
#9 – Vitamin E, Vitamin A, And Fiber
The nutrient rich olive is full of hugely beneficial vitamins that help improve vision, digestion, skin and hair health and the list goes on.
#10 – They Taste Great!
Olives taste awesome. Yes, this is an opinion. Cured olives go great on anything from pizza, to martinis, to salads and sandwiches, to breads. Their mild, yet pungent deliciousness permeates cultures and restaraunts around the world. Hopefully, you have a jar in your refrigerator right now. I ate 3 of them earlier while I was writing this article and I’m about to eat more.
So, go out and get a bottle of olive oil and another jar of olives. Treat yourself to one of the greatest foods in the world often, and share the knowlege of their health benefits, as well as their flavors, with your family and friends!

12 Herbs And Foods To Help Cleanse The Blood‏ Naturally

12 Herbs And Foods To Help Cleanse The Blood‏
Here are some simple herbs and foods to help purify and optimize your blood and which can also help cleanse your liver, kill viruses, and reduce the risk of cancer cells forming.
In order to keep our bodies and especially our immune systems in optimum condition we need to eliminate toxic residues and systemic pathogens from our blood. A healthy functioning lymphatic system is vital for keeping our blood clean and reducing the risk of serious disease arising from these pathogens becoming malignant growths within our bodies.
This can be done naturally by using many widely recognized herbs and foods that are easy to incorporate into our diets and are anti-pathogenic meaning they kill viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
1. DANDELION
Dandelion is a rich source of antioxidants and plant nutrients that help to detoxify our digestive tracts and eliminate free radicals. It is a well known herbal aid in the treatment of various liver issues. Dandelion root tea or just fresh dandelion leaves in a smoothie or juice will encourage the pancreas and liver to eliminate the toxins within your blood.
2. PARSLEY
Parsley is a natural diuretic helping your liver to detoxify your bloodstream. It is a nutritional powerhouse with high levels of vitamins A, B, C and K and the key minerals iron and potassium. Studies have shown that parsley essential oil can suppress an over-stimulated immune response which is responsible for many allergies, autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disorders. Parsley is easy to grow in a garden or window sill and can be added to almost any meal or used in a smoothie or juice.
3. TURMERIC
Turmeric is also known as curcuma and is related to the ginger family. It truly is a wonder spice. Curcumin is believed to be the main active pharmacological agent in turmeric and it has a whole range of benefits for our health including as an anti-inflammatory, antiviral , antibacterial agent as well as a blood purifier (ii). It is a powerful detoxifier and is used to relieve many liver and digestive problems.
4. CORIANDER
Also known as cilantro this is a very popular herb for removing heavy metals, including mercury, from the body which cause great damage if allowed to build up. Heavy metals have been connected with many serious health problems including cancer, heart disease, brain deterioration, emotional problems, kidney disease, lung disease, and weak bones. They enter our bloodstreams from simply breathing polluted air or from foods we consume.
Many herbal heavy metal detoxification programs recommend consuming several tablespoons of a cilantro-based pesto each day, or taking cilantro-based supplements over the course of several months, to help remove the metals.
5. BASIL
Basil is another powerful detoxifier and cleanses the liver and kidneys. It is helpful for many digestion issues and can also fight infections making it a great addition to our diets. In addition basil extract is found to be successful for removing dark spots and banishing enlarged pores on the surface of our skin.
6. GARLIC
Garlic is a rich source of sulfur which is a detoxifing mineral. It encourages the liver to produce detoxification enzymes which then filter any toxins and flush them out of your blood stream. It also keeps your intestine free of bad bacteria, parasites, and viruses.
7. BLUEBERRIES
Blueberries have gained a reputation as a superfood due to their many healing properties. They are full of antioxidant flavonoids (such as anthocyanins) that can help prevent artery hardening and help to scour plaque from the walls of the arteries. They also have powerful anti-inflammatory properties helping to banish the damaging free radicals and toxins from our bloodstreams.
8. BEETS
These are another simple food that contain many beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. Beets stimulate the liver to eliminate toxins and cleanse our blood.
9. CARROTS
Raw carrots are a rich source of vitamins A, B6, C, and K, potassium, and glutathione which is a liver cleansing protein. Eat raw or add to juices and smoothies for maximum benefits as cooking will diminish many of these benefits in particular that of glutathione.
10. APPLE
Apples are bursting with vitamins, minerals, fibers, and detoxing phytonutrients. They also contain pectin, a soluble fiber which lowers levels of harmful cholesterol and binds with heavy metals allowing them to be eliminated from blood and intestines. In addition they contain quercetin, potassium and magnesium which help keep your blood pressure under control.

Other pectin-rich fruit include pears and citrus fruit. It is well documented that drinking lukewarm lemon water in the morning alkalizes your body and releases enzymes to convert toxins into water soluble compounds that can easily be eliminated through your urine. Lemons are packed with vitamin C, a vitamin your body needs to produce glutathione (as mentioned above with carrots).
11. LEAFY GREENS
Spinach, broccoli, cabbage and kale are powerful detoxifiers and full of antioxidants that cleanse the whole body. They are packed with healthy fiber to cleanse our digestive systems and provide us with many beneficial vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients.
12. WATER
It is essential that we drink enough water to flush out toxins from our bodies. It is recommended to drink between 2 or 3 litres a day for optimum health.
Plaque build up is detrimental to our arteries’ health. Eating junk food and living an inactive sedentary life is the path to clogged arteries, unhealthy blood and a sluggish immue system. A healthy diet using the organic foods along with an exercise programme will ensure squeaky-clean arteries!

Which 50% is YOUR category?

Did you notice an article recently in Time magazine that updated us on the use of prescription drugs in America?

According to their statistics, 50% of Americans are taking at least one prescription drug every day.   That's bad news!  because all drugs are toxic by definition.  The "game" is that the daily dose of poison will hopefully be out-matched by the intended benefit.  But, because symptom suppression never corrects the underlying cause of a health challenge, this is a game that you are almost guaranteed to lose!

The good news is that the other 50% of Americans are NOT on at least one prescription drug every day.  If you fall into that category, you are still on the winning side.  And you can work at staying that way!

How can you personally continue to defy these dismal statistics?  "Let me count the ways":

1) Make sure everything you eat is nourishing without negatives

2) Drink only spring water or plain herbal teas

3) Come for Nutrition Response Testing to eliminate the toxic stressors that are already present in the body, learn how to avoid them, and get the dietary guidance that your body demands

4) Come for regular chiropractic care to keep your body structure balanced and avoid impingement upon the nervous system (the message network)

5) Come for regular therapeutic massage to get extra help in flushing out toxins from the muscles, and for the huge relaxation benefit to your whole system

6) Follow a simple daily exercise program such as walking, even for a few minutes

7) Prioritize great health in your mind as a bright, positive picture each day, so you won't be side-tracked.  After all, what are any other goals worth if you don't have the health to attain them?

By the way, if you are in the OTHER 50%, please don't feel left out!  YOU can also achieve wonderful things by putting into practice the above suggestions, while taking the medications.  Getting to the cause(s) of your health challenges may significantly change the picture for you.

June is "Pamper Dad" month at Thropay Health Center, so how about purchasing a gift card for that special man in your life?  It may well be the best Father's Day gift he has ever received!

Gift cards are available for all services in our office, and you can choose the amount.    Call us at (562) 861-3896.

Natural Ways To Remove Scars

There are many reasons why a person could have scars, varying from injuries and accidents to skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Regardless of how someone may have gotten a scar, most people would prefer to not have them. Scar removal can be very painful and expensive. However, many people are unaware of natural scar removal treatments.
Here are five natural ways to remove or diminish the appearance of scarring:
1. Egg whites
Egg whites have powerful healing qualities that can help heal scarring and make it less visible. Egg whites are full of proteins and amino acids which tightens the pores to prevent new breakouts while lightening scarred skin.
Whip 3 egg whites until they become fluffy and white. Use your fingers to spread the egg whites on to your skin, concentrating on the problem areas. Let the egg whites dry for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water. Do this 2-3 times a week and before long, scars will fade significantly.

2. Baking Soda
Baking soda will elimate dead skin and make scars less visible over time. Baking soda is coarse, but not so much to be damaging. Apply gently and it will act as a natural exfoliant without causing inflammation or irritation.
Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with water to make a consistent paste. Very gently massage the baking soda onto skin and let sit for one minute, then rinse with warm water. Make sure to moisturize after this treatment. A little coconut oil massaged gently in the skin is a great alternative to moisturizer.
3. Lemon Juice
Lemons contain alpha hydroxy acids, which have healing properties for the skin. The AHA in lemon juice removes dead skin cells, helps new cells grow, and gives skin its elasticity back. Lemon juice is often described as a natural bleach, so it’s not too surprising that it can help lighten scars.
To use lemon juice to lighten scars, cleanse the scar area thoroughly. Then, put 1 tsp. of lemon juice on a cotton ball and apply to the scarred area. Rinse off after 8-10 minutes. Lemon juice can make your skin photosensitive, so be sure to use proper precautions when in the sun.
4. Honey
Honey retains moisture well. By keeping the recovering skin tissue moist, honey aids in cells regeneration. Honey’s potent antibacterial power makes it an excellent choice for the treatment of wounds, such as burns, ulcers, bacterial infections, acne, and even scars that occur after wounds heal.
Mix a teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and honey and apply a thick coat to your face. Let sit for 15-20 minutes and rinse well with warm water. Repeat 3-4 times a week and scars will fade before you know it.
5. Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe Vera juice is another great option to naturally heal scars. Not only does it soothe inflamed skin, it also boosts the immune system and regenerates damaged tissue. Its mild acerbic qualities ensure, that with regular usage, are prevented resulting in a softer skin, decreased swelling and invigorating new cell growth.
While you can purchase various Aloe Vera products at your local pharmacy, the best thing to do is purchase an aloe plant.
To use the aloe from an aloe vera plant, break off a leaf and rub the gel-like contents onto the skin. Let it dry, then leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Try to do this every day to rapidly minimize the appearance of scarring.
The key to minimizing and elimination of scars is persistence. Serious scars may take up to several months, but with persistent and consistent effort you will eventually see good results.

Happy Easter

Someone recently said, "The Resurrection is what makes Good Friday good." Now that's a "good" point (pardon the pun) and something to ponder!

Easter weekend usually includes a family get-together, too.  Once again, if there is a potluck, those who consistently eat healthfully will want to contribute something good to the meal.  If ham is always on your family's Easter menu, consider getting an uncured ham from Trader Joe's.  This is a way to avoid the harmful sodium nitrites that "regular" hams always contain.

Here's a quick and easy recipe for a side salad that will bring color and nutrition to your meal:

CARROT & ORANGE SALAD

4 organic full-sized carrots
6 organic radishes
3-4 tbsp. fresh mint leaves
3-4 tbsp. fresh cilantro
2 organic navel oranges
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. real organic maple syrup OR raw honey
1/2 organic lemon, juiced
sea salt to taste

Slice carrots and radishes as thinly as possible and place in a mixing bowl.  Add mint and cilantro (snip the leaves if desired).  Working over a small bowl to catch the juice, peel the oranges and separate the segments.  Cut segments in half and add them to the vegetables.  Combine the cinnamon, syrup or honey, lemon juice, and sea salt. Mix well to dissolve the salt.  Pour over the vegetables and toss gently.  May be served at once, or refrigerated before serving. You may wish to double the recipe if you have a crowd!

                                                ************

Spring break is still happening for some schools in the area.  It's a great opportunity to bring your children for a nutritional or chiropractic "tune-up"!

The box for our April drawing is accumulating some names - and there is still time for YOU to get in on the fun!  You may win a $50 Visa gift card (first prize) or a full-hour therapeutic massage from Elvira (second prize), simply by referring someone new to us during April.
