Nutrients come in families

kids_games_nutrition_fun
Taking a "vitamin supplement" is like scheduling a board meeting for just one member.  Or setting a fancy table for a party of twelve, but only one person comes to the party.

The manufacturers of most vitamin and mineral supplements focus on a single element that is believed to be the most effective in the body.  They isolate this item and mass-produce it - usually synthetically in a laboratory.  But this practice of fractionating nutrients brings problems.

Take "Vitamin A," for example.  Synonymous with beta-carotene, right?  Not quite.  Beta-carotene is one member of a FAMILY of carotenoids, and is NEVER found alone in nature. Its family includes alpha-carotene, cantozantheen, gamma-carotene, omega-carotene, and others. By isolating beta-carotene from its family of carotenoids,  the synergistic benefit of all the nutrients working together is lost.

In addition, virtually all beta-carotene supplements on the market are not made from a food at all, but from acetylene gas.  Do you think your body can't tell the difference?

Another example is chromium, a necessary mineral containing the GTF ("glucose tolerance factor") which is a family of factors working together that help protect against diabetes.  But almost all chromium supplements on the market are from laboratory-made chromium picolinate - which does NOT contain the Glucose Tolerance Factor!  So the primary health benefit of chromium is not there.  Why spend the money?

Just like Vitamin A and chromium, many natural nutrients are actually complexes that must be totally present in order for us to truly benefit.  These include amino acids, Vitamin B, trace minerals, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.They are all found in certain whole foods and in concentrated whole food supplements, but not in commercial, laboratory concoctions.

As a matter of fact, the B complex is a family of eleven - and counting!  Science is only able to discover what has been there all along.  Attempts to replicate or outdo nature fall miserably short. The LIFE factor is missing.

The interesting thing about whole foods and whole food supplements is how much LESS is needed for MORE benefit.  The vitamin A content in A-F Betafood (made from beets and carrots at Standard Process) is 3000 I.U. for 2 tablets.  The label on a synthetic Vitamin A might say 6000 I.U. per serving.  But isolated beta-carotene, even in larger quantities, cannot come close to achieving the health benefit that comes from the whole carotenoid family, even though the amounts seem to be much smaller.

A synthetic vitamin is like an image in a mirror.  It looks like the real thing, but doesn't deliver.  That's why in this office we use concentrated whole food supplements, where all the co-factors are present.

And, as you know, we constantly recommend a diet of whole, natural, organic foods as the primary source of nutrition.

Point to ponder:
Good health doesn't just happen.  It has to be worked at!

New Study Finds Organic Diet For One Week Drops Pesticide Levels By 90 Percent In Adults

Remove GMOs
You will surprised by the amount of people who cannot tell the difference between organic food and food that are contaminated with pesticides.
A recent study conducted by researchers from RMIT University published in the journal Environmental Research found that adults following an organic diet for just one week had a huge reduction in pesticide exposure. Pesticides are used widely with food production. 13 participants were chosen randomly to follow a diet of at least 80% organic or conventional food for 7 days, then following the alternate diet afterwards. Urinary levels were used for analysis. The study found that urinary dialkylphosphates (DAPs) measurements were 89% lower when they ate an organic diet for 7 days compared to a conventional diet for the same amount of time.
The research was conducted by Dr. Liza Oates as part of her PhD project and supervised by Professor Marc Cohen from RMIT’s School of Health Sciences. It was supported in part by a donation to RMIT University from Bharat Mitra, co-founder of Organic India Pty Ltd..Dr Oates said “Conventional food production commonly uses organophosphate pesticides, which are neurotoxins that act on the nervous system of insects and humans by blocking an important enzyme. A lot of these agents were initially developed as nerve gases for chemical warfare, so we do know that they have toxic effects on the nervous system at high doses. Conventional food production commonly uses organophosphate pesticides, which are neurotoxins that act on the nervous system of humans by blocking an important enzyme. While the clinical relevance of reducing pesticide exposure requires further studies conducted on a larger scale, this study is an important first step in expanding our understanding about the impact of an organic diet.”
Everyday we are discovering just how harmful pesticides are to our bodies. It has been reported that the most active ingredient in Monsanto’s best selling herbicide “Roundup” is responsible for fueling breast cancer by increasing the number of breast cancer cells through cell growth and cell division. Source:
A new study was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health suggests that Roundup, or glyphosate, becomes highly toxic to the kidney once mixed with “hard” water or metals like cadmium and arsenic. These metals often exist naturally in the soil or are added via the fertilizer. Sri Lanka has completely banned Monsanto Herbicide, their reason being that a chronic kidney disease has been affecting poor farming regions all over the world and they believe the link is Monsanto Herbicide.
A study was conducted by Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff. Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Many people are unaware that they are putting Glyphosate into their bodies. When you do this you are in actually altering the chemistry of your body. It’s completely unnatural and the body doesn’t like it. P450 (CYP) is the gene pathway disrupted when the body takes in Glyphosate. P450 creates enzymes that assist with the formation of molecules in cells, as well as break them down. There are many CYP enzymes in our bodies and they have many important functions. They are responsible for detoxifying xenobiotics from the body, things like the various chemicals found in pesticides, drugs and carcinogens. Glyphosate interferes with the CYP enzymes. The CYP pathway is critical for the normal, natural functioning of multiple biological systems within our bodies. Because so many humans have been exposed to glyphosate they suffer with a drop in amino acid tryptophan levels, which interferes with the active signalling of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is associated with weight gain, depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr Liza Oates – “Our results show that people who switch to eating mainly organic food for just one week can dramatically reduce their exposure to pesticides, demonstrating that an organic diet has a key role to play in a precautionary approach to reducing pesticide exposure”.
The amount of people who say that they are on a “normal diet” are unaware of the negative health effects of organophosphate pesticides like glyphosate that are all over their foods. The dramatic reduction in exposure to glyphosate when on an organic diet for only 7 days just shows how much of these toxins are entering our bodies and how we can rid them! There is a reason that multiple countries around the world have banned GMOs and the pesticides that go hand in hand with them. Lets protect our family and friends. By just making a few differences to our diets can make significant changes to our health.

8 Best Foods to Eat For Healthy Teeth

There are far more than eight foods for healthy teeth, but I've found these to work especially well to prevent and even reverse tooth decay and gum disease in the long-term.

1. Butter Oil
Butter Oil, is a key ingredient to re-enameling teeth because it contains certain fats and activating substances that help bond the nutrients in the body to the bones. The butter must be organic from cows or goats eating rapidly growing green grasses.

2. Raisins
Naturally sweet, raisins don’t contain sucrose, or table sugar. Sugar helps bacteria stick to the tooth surface, letting them produce plaque. Raisins are also a source of phytochemicals, which may kill cavity-causing plaque bacteria. Some compounds in raisins also affect the growth of bacteria associated with gum disease.

3. High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil
This marvelous golden oil contains large amounts of elongated omega-3 fatty acids, preformed vitamin A and the sunlight vitamin D, essential nutrients that are hard to obtain in sufficient amounts in the modern diet. Samples may also naturally contain small amounts of the important bone- and blood-maintainer vitamin K. In numerous studies, the elongated omega-3 fats found in cod liver oil have been shown to improve brain function, memory, stress response, immune response, allergies, asthma, learning and behavioral disorders, including bipolar syndrome and manic-depression.

4. Tea
Compounds called polyphenols, found in black and green teas, slow the growth of bacteria associated with cavities and gum disease. Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago found that people who rinsed their mouths with black tea for one minute, 10 times a day, had less plaque buildup on their teeth than people who rinsed their mouths with water. What’s more, the size and stickness of their plaque was reduced. Tea undermines the ability of some bacteria to clump together with other bacteria, the researchers said.

5. Coconut Oil
The human body converts the lauric acid found in coconut oil into an amazing monoglyceride called monolaurin which is only found in abundance in one other liquid–breast milk. It has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-protozoa properties. Lauric acid is a powerful virus and gram-negative bacteria destroyer, and coconut oil contains the most lauric acid of any substance on earth. It is able to attack the bacteria that cause tooth decay.

6. Crunchy Veggies
It takes serious chewing to break down foods such as carrots, apples and cucumbers. But all that crunching isn’t in vain. Chewing disturbs dental plaque, and serve as a cleansing mechanism. So instead of remaining in your mouth and settling on teeth, bacteria get cleared away.

7. Vitamin-rich Foods
Foods containing calcium such raw (unpasteurized) organic hard cheese, almonds and leafy greens — and foods high in phosphorous — such as eggs and wild fish — can help keep tooth enamel strong and healthy, according to the American Dental Association. Acidic foods and beverages may cause tiny lesions on tooth enamel and calcium or phosphate help redeposit minerals back into those lesions.

8. Cranberries
Cranberries contain polyphenols (just as tea does), which may keep plaque from sticking to teeth, thus lowering the risk of cavities, according to a study published in the journal Caries Research. A caveat: Because the fruit is so tart, many cranberry products have added sugar, which may affect any potential benefits for teeth, so make eat raw unsweetened cranberries or even blend frozen unsweetened cranberries into a smoothie.

She's back and she's happy!

The trip to Standard Process organic farms was a hOWLing success! (Excuse the October pun :)  Our nutrition practitioner Susana was highly inspired by her tour of a world-class organic operation and her 'hands-on' experiences with the supplement  production process right on the farm premises.

She could talk a long time about her experiences, but we'll distill it down for you to one very encouraging point that most of us can relate to:

Have you ever heard anyone say that if EVERYONE ate or farmed organically, there would not be enough food to feed the population?

If so, you can firmly reply, "That's not true"!

The crop yield at Standard Process Farms consistently either matches or exceeds that of the "conventional" farms in the same general area...and that is achieved without ever using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified seed crops.

How can that be?  With very SMART farming!   Working WITH the earth instead of trying to supersede or "improve upon" its ample abilities to provide nutritious food.  (Ask us about the fascinating details!)

Somehow that last paragraph sounds very similar to the refrain you constantly hear from Thropay Health Center...where we work WITH the body instead of trying to trick it with fake foods or toxify it with artificial therapies.

We are more than pleased to have the whole spectrum of Standard Process concentrated whole food supplements as tools to help you reach your health goals.  You can share our absolute confidence in the quality and integrity of these products.

Let us remind you of our October promo.  Pay for a first nutritional OR chiropractic visit for someone NEW, and receive 40% off your own next visit. What a deal!  And you'll be helping your friend or loved one get started on the road to better health.

6 vegetables to grow inside your apartment and how

indoor gardenLet’s face it, not all of us have a lawn we can turn into food. Sometimes we just have to make do with what we can. Did you know that you can grow many different vegetables indoors? There are certain varieties that tend to flourish on windowsills or conservatories. So next time you may feel a bit defeated because you live in an apartment and cannot grow your own food, fret not, for there is a virtual cornucopia waiting to be grown right in your living room!
Even if you have a yard, the benefit to growing vegetables indoors is that some varieties can be cultivated year round. Also if you live in a cooler climate, there is no need to construct a greenhouse because you basically already live in one.
Tomatoes: There are plenty of varieties of tomato that can be grown indoors. Some do very well in hanging baskets. Varieties to plant in your indoor garden are, ‘Hundreds and Thousands,’ ‘Tumbler,’ ‘Maskotka,’ and ‘Garden Pearl.’ All of these varieties do very well in hanging baskets and can easily be hung in front of a window.
Radishes: While some root vegetables need too much depth to feasibly grow indoors, round radishes do not. They will work in most any container. Repurposed milk cartons do well for just a few seeds, just make sure to wash the container thoroughly prior to planting. Varieties that tend to do well inside are the fast-growing ones such as ‘Early Scarlet Globe,’ ‘Cherry Belle,’ and ‘Pink Beauty.’
Potatoes: Potatoes are especially easy to grow indoors. You can spout roots from any potato, but be sure to choose one with a lot of eyes. Place a few toothpicks in the potato to hold it up at the top of a container filled with water. Then place the container on the windowsill making sure the eyes are covered in water. It should sprout in about a week. You’ll want to choose a pot that is at least 12 inches deep. Place some pea gravel at the bottom of the pot for drainage and then fill the pot up about 1/3 of the way with soil. Place the potatoes root side down about 6 inches apart. As the plant grows you’ll need to add more soil. When the potato vine reaches the top of the pot, train them to go toward the window. Water them deeply. When small tubers begin to form on the vines your indoor harvest is ready for picking!

Mushrooms: You can grow a myriad of mushroom species indoors. In fact you can buy organic mushroom kits, with mycelium already spawned, online, and simply place them on your windowsill and water daily. But for the mushroom enthusiast, you need to start with a good sterile spawning medium and some spores. Organic rye seed works best for spawning shrooms, just make sure you are in a sterile environment to inject the grow bags with the spores. Place in a dark closest and make sure to maintain proper moisture. When the white mycelium starts to grow, usually around 2-4 weeks, you are ready to transfer to compost and grow your mushrooms. Oyster mushrooms do particularly well indoors and are a delightful treat.

Beans: Dwarf French Beans or one of the many other types of running beans are great for indoors. You can plant the beans in a relatively small pot on the windowsill or just below. When the beans sprout make sure you have fashioned a small trellis for them to climb into the window frame. The beauty of growing beans indoors is that not only will you get food, but the vines running up the window are aesthetically pleasing too!
Salad Greens: There are many different salad greens and leaf lettuce varieties that are great for indoors. Your indoor micro-green garden will also provide a beautiful sight. An important step to take is making sure that your pot has holes in it at the bottom for drainage, as greens are particularly susceptible to root rot. Make sure to keep the soil moist to the touch too. When the plants start to appear pinch off the new sprouts to keep the large healthy shoots growing. When they are tender enough, you can pick your salad right from the plant, one leaf at a time.

Why you should eat lemon peels?

When you squeeze a lemon, are you throwing away the most valuable part away?

The skin of a lemon literally has 5 to 10 times the amount of active nutrients as the juice of the lemon.  Salvestrol Q40 and limonen, which are present in the peel, are known to be potent anti cancer agents.  The flavanoids that lemon skin contains have are believed to suppress the division of cancerous cells in the body. Of course the peel is loaded with vitamin C which is referred to as the detox vitamin for its ability to cleanse the blood system of harmful free radicals, preventing tissue damage, inflammation, and lowering the risk of developing heart disease.  Lemon skin can also be eaten to help detox and improve the appearance of skin.

How are your nerves these days?

How are your nerves these days?

You are the sole owner of an incredible communications system!  The shares are all yours, and you earn all the dividends.  This company seems to function independently, but its performance is actually greatly affected by the executive decisions you make as CEO.

Of course I am referring to your nervous system - a vast network of fibers that controls the healthy function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ, and system in your body.

The brain, your central command center, sends its messages by means of your highly complex nervous system.  All things being ideal with this marvelous arrangement, your body will function optimally and your health will be more than impressive!

Unfortunately, there can be interferences which will hinder this process.  Depending upon their extent and how long they go uncorrected, these interferences can keep you from operating at "full charge" ...  all the way to downright sick and even dying.

But we have GOOD NEWS - they are correctable!  No one needs to be a victim of these hindrances to the vital nervous system.  Take a look at the various possible categories:

1. heavy metals
2. heavy chemicals
3. immune challenges
4. scars, surgical or otherwise
5. negative effects of food products
6. structural imbalances that impinge upon the spinal or cranial nerves

Correcting any health challenge is a two-pronged process.  1) The above interferences are removed and prevented from re-entering your body, and 2) You take the necessary positive steps to work WITH your nervous system.

Thropay Health Center specializes in expertly walking you through every step of this process.  The results may well astound you, as they have many others!

Do yourself or your friends a big favor by calling us for an appointment to have a personal health evaluation.  Making the right executive decisions for the benefit of your "communications company" is better sooner than later!

Shoulder Pain? Lower Back Pain? Low Energy? End Your Pain Today!

What-does-chiropractors-do
I have been coming to Dr. Thropay for chiropractic care at various times for about 18 years.  But this year I was experiencing a lot of pain – in the shoulder area, lower back, and between the shoulder blades.  Additionally, I had a very low energy level.
I came in for an adjustment, thinking that would solve these problems.  On previous occasions, I had seen some of the information in his exam rooms about nutritional health.  When I asked Dr. Thropay about it, he said that part of my problem could be resolved with nutritional care.  He told me about Dr. Omura and the development of resonance testing.  He also talked about the special computerized program he acquired from a Russian doctor who came to the U.S. after the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1980’s.  I signed on.
How is it now?  My energy level has jumped!  The pain between my shoulder blades is gone.  My lower back is in great shape, with the exception of a slight pain in the center.  Furthermore, I have lost 18 pounds and I really eat better, thanks to Mrs. Thropay’s Healthful Eating class and Dr. Thropay’s careful monitoring of what I eat.
I am thrilled with these results, achieved in a matter of a few short months.  I highly recommend Dr. Thropay to anyone for both his chiropractic and his nutritional care!

Suffering From Acid Reflux? Dr. Thropay Can Help

For about 20 years, I had acid reflux symptoms.  I took both prescription and over-the-counter medications in my unsuccessful search for relief.
Last year, I also discovered that I had high blood pressure.  I was put on medications to regulate my blood pressure numbers.
I came to this clinic for Nutrition Response Testing several months ago.  Besides making major changes in my diet, I began taking whole concentrated food supplements that were assigned according to my body’s specific requirements.
My acid reflux is much better!  I no longer have the discomfort that made me seek relief for it in medication.  My blood pressure is also doing better.  I am hoping to be able to completely wean myself from the blood pressure medication, in time.

Health Tips With Thropay Chiropractic!

The June issue of Reader's Digest has an article on page 36 entitled "How Everyday Eaters May OD on Vitamins."  This write-up is a perfect example of the paradoxical health information out there that bewilders and confuses people.

Put briefly, the premise is that anyone eating "functional foods" will receive far more than the Recommended Daily Allowance of certain nutrients, and this "may carry health risks."  A sample day's diet is given, accompanied by a graph that shows the excess nutrients this food contains.

Deciphering and sorting this material into true vs.false is a fairly simple process.
Step One:  Define the terms

            a) functional foods are explained as "fortified foods" - this is key.  Fortified foods are those items that have been processed to remove much of their nutritional value (and extend their shelf life) but contain added vitamins or minerals in order to compensate somewhat for the lack

FRESH - START FRIDAY!

FRESH - START MONDAY!
THUMBS UP SALSA by Mrs. Thropay
28-ounce can of organic whole Italian plum tomatoes
1 medium organic onion
1 large organic Anaheim chili pepper
1 organic jalapeno pepper
1 tsp. minced garlic (fresh organic or from jar – not powder)
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 bunch of organic cilantro
Place contents of tomato can in a VitaMix or blender. Finely dice the onion and chili peppers, and add to
blender. Add garlic, salt, and oregano. On top of all, snip the cilantro with kitchen scissors, until the whole bunch is used (or to taste). Pulse sparingly until just mixed – in a VitaMix, this takes about 3 quick pulses on medium - but do not pulverize. Tomatoes should be somewhat chunky.
